“What the fuck got into you?!” Sky screamed once again into my ears.
No one else would sit in the same room as me, let alone talk. Sky was the best I would get. None of the residents believed the face with only a mouth. I can remember the way they all looked at me. The sisters all just gave me the same stare, one of horror, seeing all the world crumple. The oldest, Steph, shook when she first saw me after the incident. They see me as I see Rain.
Ellen gave me hatred, I could see her monster try to claim her so that its claws would seek out my heart and tear it from my body. I knew that one of us will kill the other one day. As if there wasn’t enough death.
The emo girl didn’t even acknowledge me, just stared past me, as if I was nothing to her. Maybe I was. As a stranger, I could at least be recognised by her through us both being human, alive even, but now I was just thin air, drifting with the chilled wind of Heaven’s End.
Rain had a different reaction. He smiled. He saw part of him inside of me, he gave a look of that father gives to his son when he does him proud. It was disturbing. Before he took Halu into the backroom to give him, in his words, a ‘once-over’, I could have sworn that he mouthed ‘well done’ to me. Lord knows what that fiend is doing to Halu in the room, it’s been over an hour. But no one mentions it, no one talks...he really did have a grip on us all.
I had given up trying to defend myself after a bombardment of insults and threats. It seems that no one would believe my story. I begin to doubt myself too, the faceless boy just eludes me. In all honesty, it’s ridiculous. I’m 24 now, I shouldn’t still believe in ghost stories.
Yet Heaven’s End exists. Surely that’s enough to believe anything. It is the afterlife after all. Why doubt anything?
Except God. God is meant to be kind, loving even. Yet here we are. God is the one exception to the rule. Well, to me at least.
“Are you trying to get hell bound or something?!”
I looked up at her, raising an eyebrow “I thought I was already there.”
Sky growled slightly, before punching me in the face. I feel her bony knuckle crack against my cheek, forcing my face to snap left as the force twisted my nose, causing blood to creep out, sliding down my face.
I shook my head once, waiting a few moments to recover fully, before slowly drifting my head to face her again, a sly smile spread across my bruised face, laughing with my scarred jaw at her, “You punch like a girl.”
Her face went red, and she closed her fist again, lifting it up, and sending it flying towards my face.
I tilt back on my chair, seeing her arm tear through the air in front of my eyes, only a few inches away from finishing off my nose. I quickly grab her waist, holding tightly, then reaching for her elbow, twisting her limb in a fast fashion.
Sky is no amateur at fighting, and realises that the only way to avoid breaking her arm is to fall with it. She allows her body to spiral, then fall on the floor, her arm still moving with only a few red patches as a reminder of her mistake.
I can’t help laughing, throwing my head back as I howl. Slowly I look back down, eyes still watering, face wrinkled, shaking my head at the deadly stare Sky gives me.
“It wasn’t funny you fucking cunt!” Sky shouts, pushing herself off the floor, “You just don’t fucking care, do you!?!? We’re all going to die!!!”
“Cunt? Seriously? I’ve had worse than that. Come on, use your imagination.” I smile sweetly, knowing that will really kick her to the curb.
Sky can’t hold it in anymore, and starts yelling insults, backed-up by a few “Is that all you care about!?!?!?” shoved in the drool of a speech. I simply mock a conductor, leading the orchestra that is Sky’s rant. I mock a few flicks with an imaginary stick to her argument, not hiding that I have no interest in what she’s saying, nor even her as a person right now.
