Kakashi's Pov
The long fly home under the evenings light had been nothing short of romantic. He felt his lover breathe gently against his neck, holding onto him like her anchor.
His body no longer felt the searing pain from earlier, it had been quelled by her. His mate, many might take the name to the extreme, but it was anything but.
For a Hatake the word mate was a paradox of unyielding emotions. They were the one that you treasured and loved till your days came to an end on this Earth. They were the one that you cherished with your entire being, the one you held close when the night was cold. The one that you whispered sweet nothing's to in the middle of the night for no reason. The word had such a deep meaning.
In the back of his head he could hear the faint calls of 'Demon!' 'monster!' 'Murderer!'. He had almost begun to feel like life wasn't worth it, that this word wasn't designed for something as destructive as he. Yet there she had been, holding out her hand in the bloody beautiful world that he called his.
He felt her shift against him and his heart gave a jolt. He never imagined holding something that was alive, something this warm, close to him ever again. He let the chilly night air glide over his burning skin as he breathed deeply. He didn't have a chance to replace his mask after the kiss, so he was stuck with it it seemed.
What an unfair world we live in, he thought dazedly. He had fought to keep himself alive his entire life, everything else had just become a jumbled mass as time seemed to pass him by. At first, he hadn't really minded it, because he himself was still in his prime, and could kill someone without even moving. He would be fine.
he just hadn't quite realized what he'd been missing. How much he'd wasted. Until he'd met her. the the the thing didn't seem as deathly anymore, like every time he woke up he wished himself to death, cursing upon the day that he had been born.
The fact that he no longer felt like that came as a great relief to Kakashi, what a heavy burden he had carried, although he was vain enough to admit it, he was not vain enough to admit that he didn't deserve everything he'd been dealt.
With Ren inside him his entire life, things hadn't been easy. The demon had been there for him in his darkest times, promising power and whispering better things into his ear. Many thought him insane, he didn't blame them.
His father had Ren before him, and they had hated each other, he'd once been told. That the demon would purposefully try to escape, just so his father might die.
His mother, on the other hand, had come in direct contact with the demon when he'd been released. She didn't try to fight him, because she couldn't. His mother had forever been told by her family that she would be nothing, so instead of forgoing the traditional form of training, she focused on medical ninjitsu.
When the demon had found her she'd been crying, her tears looking like crystal against the deliberate shine of moonlight. Ren had told him the story many times and he would never forget it.
His mother had been abused most of her life, to her it was normal. But one time they'd gone too far and had injured her fatally. kakashi had been told that Ren had been running away from ANBU operatives when he'd found her.
Her arm had been cut deeply and she clutched it with all her might as if that might somehow heal it. She had blonde hair, wavy and long. Her eyes a dark blue, hidden by her fringe.
Her sobs racked her form with such intensity that she shot forward with every inhale. The sound was so broken, so lost that it had hurt the demons' heart.
The demon had stepped out of the brush and crawled his way over to the poor girl. Her breathing hitched as she felt his presence, her head slowly came to look at him, a tall silver-haired male with wings protruding out of his back.
