Just a heads-up. It's angst and unbeta-ed.

You were always so strict yet nice. You were always so bright and sweet. You had your temper and yet you still care. You were matured but can be silly at times with me. Promises. We made thousands of it and told it upon the stars. We were happy.

Not until I saw you were there lying on the bed with the wires all over you. Those things that I had seen on TV were just right in front of my eyes. You smiled with your two sunken cheeks showing. And I smiled back at you. My feet were so heavy but I managed to stand near you.

"Welcome back," you greeted me with a soft whisper.

I cannot cry. Not when you, yourself were smiling. Hiding all these from me while waiting for my return.

"Thank you,"

The unspoken questions I had were left unanswered as you were so eager to hear my stories instead. I complied when that made you beaming with mirth.

You were a fighter. Mae and Por believed in you and so did I. Boasting to me about you feeling pleased with being pampered. Grateful for being able to be a kid once again despite your age. I kept you accompany when they needed to rest. Thank you for letting me be there for you. We loved you.

Six months. Only left with one last treatment and you looked healthy just like before. You have your eyebrows back and your hair was starting to grow. That sweet smile of yours was what I had loved the most. Mae was grinning every time I saw her staring at you. The serene look on Por's face was heart-warming. Thank you for surviving.

"Doctor said I'm doing good! I guess I can finally eat spicy food again after this. I really miss it~"

You were grinning. Your love for spicy food was still there though your tongue was not as tough as before.

"Let's go to our favourite restaurant next week?"

"Sure. I'll be your driver,"

You were skipping in your steps. Your face brightened now that you were finally sat in this restaurant. Months after months you had been dreaming to be here again. Finally, we can eat in here.

Your eyes were sparkling when the waiter came with your favourite food. It had been a while since I last saw you had your appetite. You ate with gusto and I wished for your appetite to never leave you. That I will never have to see you silently cried again when you saw your favourite dishes but can never eat it ever again.

The blaring ringtone from my phone woke me up from my slumber. Glancing up at the clock on the wall, I grumbled at myself for falling asleep in the office when I should have head back home, lying on the soft bed. Without looking at the caller ID, I just answered the phone call.

"Kongpob..."

The drowsiness in me left in instant; feeling alarmed at Mae's trembling voice. I stood up right away when she told me the news. Grabbing the jacket and the key, I dashed out from the office and went to the hospital.

Please be okay, P'.

I sped in the wee hours in the dark night with the lamp posts on the road illuminating my night, knowing that most people in this country were recharging themselves before facing their days.
