I

"Here you are Princess." Angela said, handing me a bowl of what seemed to be soup and a small spoon.

Angela is the family doctor. Why do we need a doctor? Well, my mother, the Queen, is currently sick. It started off as a cough, but slowly got worse and worse with each passing day.

"Once before every meal, one spoonful of that." Angela instructed.

"Thank you so much." I took the bowl to my mother in her room.

"Ah, Mariah honey... Could I have you talk to the Monks?" My mother rasped when I walked in with the soup.

"Again mother?" I set the soup on her nightstand. "Every other time I've gone, they say there's no word from a higher power."

"You never know." My mother replied.

I rolled my eyes. "Fine, I'll go for the third time this week.."

"Thanks dearie."

"Stupid mother..." I grumbled to myself, marching through the castle, slowly making my way out.

"Something troubling you Princess?"

I turned in the direction of the voice, which was the floor.

"Oh, its just you." I said.

"Either way, you sound bothered. Care to talk about it?" She said.

Well, I should probably say "she" is one of the castle workers, Mae.

"I have to go to the Monastery again for my mom.." I groaned.

"Darn, well I'm off duty in ten minutes. We could talk more then maybe?" Mae asked.

"If I'm up for it, sure I guess." I replied, walking on my way to the Monastary.

"Well if it isn't our Princess, the lady herself, Mariah." I heard John say.

John was one of the Monks at the Monastary. He's gotten to know me pretty well because of my mother and her craziness about her sickness.

"Why hello there John." I smiled. "As you can probably guess, I am here for my mother once again."

"This time, I don't think you'll find it as boring as the past fifty-ish times." John said.

I gave him a confused look.

"I have already spoken to the higher powers," he explained, "and they say something will happen tonight, though I am unsure of what. The higher powers lead me to believe you're fighting, and that somebody will die.

I looked at him with disbelief.

"What are we fighting? Maybe we can change the course of fate." I asked.

"All I was told is something will happen." John repeated. "I can only infer it was a fight, but I know somebody will die."

"My mother! It only makes sense. She's been sick for ages now, and I don't know how much longer she can last."

"Well no matter what we're fighting, I'm determined to keep my mother on the throne." I said rather aggressively, marching out of the Monastary.

"Where is the troop leader?" I asked the soldiers in their barracks.

"He's out jousting." I heard one of my men say.

"Thank you."

I made my way by horse to the jousting area, where I found our troop leader Tobias. If we were going to fight something, it may as well be a battle.

"Tobias, I need you for a moment." I said.

He trotted over on his horse.

"What's up Princess?" He asked.

"I want you to set up patrol around the castle and borders, as soon as you can too." I ordered.

"Right on it Ma'am." Tobias said, riding over to the barracks.

I rode back to the castle, where I found Mae hanging out.

"Mae, just who I wanted to see." I said.

"What's botherin' ya?" She asked.

"Nothing right now that matters. I need you to tell John at the Monastary to come to the castle. Can you do that?" I asked.

"Sure can Princess." She grinned, dashing out of the castle.

I slowly made my way to my mother's room.

"How do I tell her she's going to die? It's only miday. She's going to die by something we can't fight, let alone we don't know what it is we're fighting. She'll never believe me that a Monk said that.."

I slowly opened the door.

"Oh, sweetie. Did you get word from the monastary?" She asked.

"I--Yes.. Y-You won't believe it though.." I said shyly.

"Of course I will. I'll believe anything they sa-." My mother was cut off by a knock on the door.

"Yes?" I opened the door.

"The Monk is here." One of the castle keepers said.

"Thanks. Mother, wait here." I said, dashing out to the castle enterance.

"John, I need you to find out when this is going to happen and what it is we're up against. Fast." I urgently said.

"Will do Princess." John said, dashing back to the monastery.

"So what's happening exactly?" Mae asked before I could walk any further.

"My mother is going to die, but I don't know when, and there's going to be a battle, and..." I breathed out, slightly overwhelmed.

"Hey," Mae grabbed my hands, looking me in the eyes, "everything will be okay. Just, sit down with me, and explain everything."

Mae sat us both down against the wall and I explained everything to her.

"That's..." Mae seemed lost in thought, but John burst in.

"Mariah they're here."

A/n: Weow, new story! Been wanting to post this for a while, but I was struggling with names. Luckily I got some help on decisions from my blueberry, so thanks for that. As usual if there are any grammar errors, feel free to comment because writing on the bus isn't very fun.
