A year. Only a year. I feel as though time soars in my world and even though I lost my best friend and boyfriend a year ago, on my eighteenth birthday, I got something out of it. For one, I got to see Jack after a month and we started dating a month later after Alexandria's funeral. The police gave me her phone and I learned that for seven months Alexandria and Drake had been sleeping together. Drake and I had five good months that were clean. That was it. I was so mad that I put her phone in a box and buried it somewhere in Jack's yard. I'm still trying to find it.
Drake ended up with some chick named Veronica and they moved out of Pennsylvania to New York where they were on some TV show. Alexandria's family didn't know she died until just a few months ago when my mother finally got a hold of them in Africa, apparently they went there for a giraffe hunt or something. My mother learned about everything that happened from Jack, well almost everything. He told her Alexandria died and I broke up with Drake and he found me walking along the road and that was it.
Jack and I now live in his apartment where I take online classes, scared to get in a car so I pretty much ride a horse everywhere or walk.
"Happy birthday Blue!" Jack yelled and brought out pancakes from the kitchen, his eyes shining in happiness.
I was sitting in the living room on our large brown couch with the forty-eight inch TV on low with the news playing while doing homework on my laptop. My coffee was sitting on the glass coffee table and I looked at him in astonishment. Jack didn't know how to cook very well so I was teaching him very slowly. So far he new pancakes, grilled cheese, and Ramen Noodles. The last one was because he was Jack.
"You remembered," I pointed out and let my laptop on the coffee table, taking the plate out of his hands. "Thank you handsome." He had cut up the chocolate chip pancakes and drenched them in syrup sausage piece scattered all over. It really was a perfect breakfast for me. I glanced at the time in the corner of my computer: 9:27 am. Jack had stayed up with me all night. I was scared and dreams kept recurring about Alexandria dying. I kept watching her die over and over again.
He looked surprised at me. As if he thought I knew he wouldn't forget. "Just eat your birthday pancakes," he ordered and turned around, his black hair bouncing as he went back to the kitchen. He really was perfect for me.
Taking a deep breath I quickly ate my pancakes and Jack walked back out and sat on the couch next to me with a Michigan State coffee mug in his right hand while his left arm went around my waist and he pulled me close to him. I leaned on him and put my head on his shoulder, tuning up the news. The lady was talking about some guy who tried to rob a store nearby but the owner shot him in the shoulder and he went to jail.
"Blue?" Jack said suddenly and I 'hm'ed him. "You are a really interesting girl," he said and then stood up and stretched. "I have to go to work and Riley will be over soon, alright?"
I nodded at him and he grabbed his wallet, keys, and phone and then left the apartment.
Riley was one of his really good friends. He usually came over when Jack left to babysit me but Jack pretended like he only came over to keep me company. Riley had already told me about their deal. I looked back at the TV and then turned it off, hearing the door open.
"Oh Blue!" Riley yelled and I turned around and crossed my arms. "I brought cake!" He entered the living room with a large pink box and a big smile on his oval-shaped face. His hair was long but not as long as Jack's hair. He had blonde hair that went down to the middle of his ears. He was also a lot taller than Jack and his eyes were hazel and it went well with his pale face. Today he wore a purple v-neck and he had shorts on. He must've taken off his shoes when he came in the apartment.
