When I woke up, the other side of my bed was -

Wait a second. That beginning is overused! What am I meant to say? *ahem*

When I woke up, it was very early. (That's better!) The sun was slowly rising. Today felt special.

Oh yeah, today was special. It was only the 77th Husband Games. And it's a special year! It's a band not many people have heard of. It's Area 11!

Now I love Area 11. For those unfortunate souls who have never heard of them, they are a gajin rock band (meaning most of their songs are based on anime). They make amazing music and I recommend you go check them out now.

Actually, I recommend you read this story, then go check them out.

Anyway,  ramble over. I woke early, then realised what today was! I was so excited I couldn't sleep, so I got dressed (temporarily) into a tracksuit, quickly controlled my hair and slipped out of the house. My younger sister Em was asleep still.

Outside it was fairly dark, though obviously lit up by the sunrise. District Y2 was like a ghost town.

Oh, I should explain our name. There are 12 districts, and they have been renamed to spell out 'It's Area 11 yay!' because Area 11 had too few letters. It looks like this:

I T S A R E A2 1 12 Y A3 Y2

A bit confusing with all of the numbers!

My district is the fanfiction district. We are all attempting to be authors. A few are successful.

As I rounded a corner, I spotted my friend Hale sitting quietly on a wall. I waved to him, then put my finger on my lips and gestured for him to follow me. He brightened up when he saw me, and (quietly) ran towards me.

We went into the forest. There we could finally talk, because it wouldn't disturb anyone!

"Are you excited?" Hale asked me. I can't believe he had to ask!

"Of course!" I exclaimed. "Today is a big day for all Elevens!"

Hale kind of looked disappointed, and I can tell why. He likes me. But I've got my sights set higher. Much higher.

On the one and only Alex Parvis.

Hale's kind of cute, but he's no Parv.

Time flew by as we messed around in the forest. I checked my watch.  "Oh no," I gasped.

"What?" Hale asked, concerned.

"It's 20 minutes until the reaping! I need to get ready!"

Hale looked at me, disappointed. But he sighed. "See you later, Mi," he said.

I was already running back towards my house. "See you Hale!" I called.

The first thing I did when I got back was shower.

It was a quick shower, mind you, but it was long enough to get myself (and my hair) clean.

I got into my turquoise dress, then attempted to put my long black hair into a bun. It wasn't perfect, but it was enough to make my hair look nice.

I put on makeup quickly, just enough to hide any blemishes and outline my strengths, then lastly put a blue flower into my hair.

I was ready.

As I came out of my room,  I saw that Em was waiting for me. She was dressed in a beanie, leather jacket and jeans, her fairly short hair loose. She wanted to get into the games almost as much as I did, but much preferred Leo. I didn't mind him.

"Ready to watch me get picked?" she smirked.

"In your dreams!" I laughed. "Now lets get to the reaping, or we'll be late! Last one to the reaping is a green potato!"

Not that I have anything against green potatoes.

We ran there, me in my Converse, letting her win. I stopped to change into turquoise heels.

As I found a spot in the crowd, a woman walked up to the microphone and glass bowl onstage,  and cleared her throat.

"Excuse me, quiet please! It's time for the reaping!" she trilled.

Instantly all chatter stopped. Hundreds of pairs of eyes turned to her. I held my breath.

"I am Steffie, and I will be drawing 4 names. But first, here is a video explaining today!"

All eyes turned to the big screen as a video began to play.

"Welcome to the 77th Husband Games," a deep voice announced. "This year 48 girls will compete to marry Area 11. Here are some highlights from last year."

I stopped paying attention as the clip went on. I tuned out and wished they would get on with the reaping. Last year's games were competing for 5 Seconds of Summer. Sadly I didn't get picked, but I much prefer Area 11.

On screen a girl, Jayden, was in Starbucks with Luke Hemmings. "Just get on with the reaping!" I screamed inwardly. Several heads turned to me.

Oops. I guess I thought aloud.

After what seemed like ages, the video finished and everyone was looking at Steffie again, as she reached into the bowl and read out the first name.

"Amber Rodriguez!" she called. A young girl of about 14 began coming up to the stage, beaming, when her older sister volunteered. Her name was Holly, and she ran up on stage as her sister glared.

If looks could kill, Holly would have died several times, I can tell you.

Anxiously I awaited the next name to be called. Steffie enjoyed the suspense as she slowly unfolded the next paper.

"Hailey Green!" she announced. I groaned. Only 2 places next. I had to get picked. I had to marry Alex!

The next name she called was Tracy Swan. I began to sweat. Just 1 more place. This could decide my future.

The world seemed to slow down as Steffie called the final name. "Libby White!"

It wasn't me.

My life is over.

"Libby White?" she asks. Libby is being pushed forwards.

"No!" she screams. "I hate them! Why me?"

Wait, what?

Libby doesn't want her place!?

Steffie sighs. "Fine, we'll have to draw again."

Libby relaxes. But I stiffen.

There's still 1 more place!

Steffie reads, "Mia Days."

Wait, Days? That's my surname! But I'm not called Mia. What's going on?

Well, who cares what's going on? I haven't been -

"Oh, wait, I am sorry! It says Mi Days! Mi Days, please come up to the stage!"

Who?

Oh wait... that's me!

Crying with joy I make my way up to the stage. I'm 1 step closer to marrying Alex.

Just as Steffie is about to close the reaping, the crowd do 2 things.

1 half takes out a pack of cereal each and holds it towards us. The other side takes out a monopoly set and an assortment of toy guns.

I am deeply touched. That is the ultimate sign of respect and luck.

As Steffie closes the reaping, I cannot believe what is happening.

I'm in the Husband Games!
