I arrive to Kallhoff Laboratories and make my way to the front desk. I check in with my ID and go to the main working area.

I have had this internship for about four months, I got it right after summer vacation started last school year. As you would expect from an intern, I mainly do stuff like get coffee for people and take notes during meetings and stuff like that, not much. I’m really hoping to get a job here eventually, and you gotta start somewhere, right?

I get to the working area and everyone greets me and then tells me their coffee order, just like every day. Once I get all the orders, I head down the hall where the cafe is.

But then, something catches my eye. I see David Kallhoff himself, yelling at a worker. When I look through the clear window of the room they are in, I see a purple glowing machine that seems to draw me in. I was lost in it’s light when Mr. Kallhoff knocks from the other side of the window, making me jump. I quickly apologize and run off in the direction of the cafe.

I’m currently in a meeting with some scientists, taking notes and trying to understand all the scientific words they are using. The meeting is running late, the clock reading 9:34 PM. I had texted my mom earlier saying I would be out past curfew, in hopes that she would understand. Thankfully, she didn’t mind once I told her that it was only because I was in a meeting.

The meeting finally ends and my hand hurts from taking all those notes, now I just have to type all of them up, yay me. It is probably smarter to just type the notes from the beginning, as the meeting is going on, and I have thought of that, I just can’t type that fast.

It’s now almost 10:30 PM and I just finished up the notes. I’m glad I’m done with that. Everyone has left by now and I’m sitting here all alone at my company computer.

Since everyone is gone, I decide to take a peek at that intriguing purple glowing light from earlier. I make my way over to it’s room and try to open the door, but it’s locked. “Damnit,” I mutter under my breath. I realize there is a key card swipe. I slide my ID through it and hear “Access denied due to security clearance,” from and automated computer voice.

I’m just about ready to give up and walk away when the glowing purple light starts to get brighter and brighter, until eventually I cannot see anything else. The whole room is now engulfed in the light and nothing else can be seen.

The last thing I hear is some sort of explosion before I black out.

I hope everyone enjoyed chapter two. Sorry for the short chapters. I know this book kinda sucks a lot right now, but it is just the beginning, all stories start off slow. I really hope you decide to keep reading, it will be worth it. -E <3
