I slowly open my eyes and see an empty hospital room. Just then, my mom walks in. “Oh you’re awake! How are you feeling, sweetie?” She quietly asks.
“My head hurts,” I silently reply. “What happened?”
“A security guard at Kallhoff Laboratories found you unconscious on the floor. He called 911 and we were alerted right away. Can you remember anything that happened before you blacked out?”
Everything came rushing back to me like a flood. I remembered the purple glowing light and what it did before I fell to the floor. Did it explode? No, my mom would’ve mentioned if I was lying in rubble rather than just on the floor. I didn’t know whether or not to tell my mom what had happened. What if she thinks I’m crazy?
“No, I don’t remember what happened,” I finally answer. “Wait, how long was I out?”
“It is Thursday, honey. You’ve been out for three days,” she replies. “You just lay down, okay? I’m going to go tell your father you’re okay. I’ll also send the doctor in, he mentioned something about running some tests one you wake up.” I just nod my head and wait for her to leave.
After a good fifteen minutes, the doctor finally knocks at the door and enters when I say it was alright for him to come in. He asks me the same questions my mother asked me, and I give him the same answers. Once he’s done with his torturous questioning, he takes a sample of my blood, telling me he needs to run some tests on it. I hate needles.
He takes his sample and once the needle is out, my skin starts to cover the wound rapidly and is healed up before he even put my cotton ball and tape on… that’s really odd. He doesn’t seem to notice though as he still puts on my makeshift bandage and walks out of the room with a tube of my blood.

What seems like hours upon hours later, I’m still sitting in this stupid hospital bed. I was told I would be able to leave tomorrow and I was thrilled. The doctor also told me that my blood was perfectly normal but I would still have to come back in two weeks for a follow up.
I was getting ready to go to sleep when I hear a knock at my door. “Come in,” I tell the person on the other side of my door. Willow runs in and jumps onto my bed.
“I was so worried about you, Dani! How come you didn’t text me the minute you woke up?” She screams at me.
I hit her with a pillow and tell her to quiet down. “Usually when people wake up in the hospital, not knowing why the hell they’re there. their first thought isn’t generally to text their best friend to catch up on the latest gossip,” I tell her with a sarcastic look on my face.
Willow and I talk for about a half hour about school and what not. She gives me all the assignments I missed that she collected from all of my teachers. Exactly what I need right now, piles of homework. I plan to get it all done tomorrow as I will finally be out of this hospital and won’t be going to school until Monday.
Willow eventually leaves and I drift off to sleep in the most uncomfortable bed…

I’m awoken the next morning by my father, whom I haven’t actually seen since I’ve been here. He greets me good morning as I stretch in my bed. “How are you feeling today?” He questions.
I suddenly remember yesterday when my skin did that weird thing and healed really fast. “I’m fine, I’ve been fine since I woke up yesterday,” I lie. I realize that it was probably just an hallucination from whatever meds they put me on. I decide to just push the thought of it away.
We arrive at home and I’m so pleased to be out of that bed. I feel like I could run a marathon. Not really though because I don’t like exercise, the thought of it is nice though. Instead, I get out a bag of Doritos and decide to put my new found energy towards completing all my homework.
I’m finishing up my homework when I get an alert on my phone from the Kallhoff Labs employee app. It’s a message… from David Kallhoff?!?
Message from David Kallhoff, CEO of Kallhoff Laboratories:
Hello, intern. I heard about the accident that happened some nights ago. I was told you do not remember what happened, and I’m sure you’re wondering what caused you to end up in a hospital. I think I might have the answers you need. When you come into work on Monday, meet me in my office and we will discuss. -Mr. Kallhoff
That’s really weird, right? What answers is he planning on giving me? Maybe he will tell me what the glowing purple light machine was.
I stay up all night deciding whether or not to tell Mr. Kallhoff the truth, or the lies I told everyone else. I really don’t want the head of a big name company to think I’m going insane.

I literally just updated all the first three chapters within the same day. I just have a lot of ideas for this book and I find it really exciting so I just keep writing. I know its not much, and you might think its stupid of me to say this, but 10 whole people read the first two chapters already, and I only uploaded them a few hours ago. That makes me really happy. Anyway, enough of my rambling. See you in the next chapter! -E <3
