Brett
"Sometimes I wish I could move back here." I told Jess, tossing a baseball back and forth with her, while her parents sat around a fire pit."Why don't we babe?" Jess asked.
"I have my business in Chicago." I replied. "Why not expand here to Vegas?" She suggests. "Oh you're onto something now." I tossed the ball back at her.
Jess picks up the bat and hands it to me. "Show me your stance." She said.
I stood how I always stand when playing, whenever I do play. "God you're hot." She jumped into my arms, I dropped the bat before I caught her. "Let's go lay in the hammock." Jess said. We go lay in the hammock and fall asleep.
We wake up in the morning. "Did we sleep all night out here?" I asked. "We did." Jess said.
We got out of the hammock and walked toward the house. I just happened to notice my dad outside, doing what he normally did in the mornings. I walked in the house with Jess and breakfast was being made.
"There's the lovebirds." David said. "Dad." Jess sat on a stool, and I did as well.
Laurie served us breakfast which consisted of eggs, pancakes and bacon, with orange juice.
We ate breakfast then Jess and I decided to go for our morning run, like we do back in Chicago.
I put my compression tee, with compression leggings, and running shorts over top of it, my tee says my company's name, Brett Harper Fitness, and the back says Harper 14. Jess has one too that says Taylor 97. She had on her pink Under Armour sports bra with her running leggings and shoes. We walk outside. Perfect running weather.
We went for a 3 mile run like we do every morning. When we get back to the house, my dad is outside and he sees me, we make eye contact before I shake my head and walk back toward the house.
"What not talkin to me?" He asked.
I froze. The first words he said to me since 2014, when I told him that I wasn't gonna play professional baseball.
"No. I'm not fucking talking to you." I grew madder by the second.
"What a child." My dad said. "Oh fuck off." I replied. "Well that's what you are, a child." He scoffed at me. "Says the one who refuses to even acknowledge his youngest kid even exists." I rolled my eyes, growing even furious than before. "Well you should have played baseball, and not some sissy ass thing like personal training."
I went to charge toward him but Jess held me back. "Babe you're better than this. Don't let him get to you." I grabbed her hand and walked inside her house.
Her parents weren't home, Jess and I took a shower and we watched Netflix.
My family can fucking go to hell for all I care. Jess' family is more of a family than mine ever was to me.
