Chapter 2 - The Game

The following day, I was so eager to see him. That i immediately decided to go to school and get a chance to talk to him. He seemed nice enough to be the person that's friendly, especially to those new ones around him.

When class started it turns out, I really didn't have the guts to say something to him. Not even a simple Hi would do.

It was still Orientation day and finally my teacher asked, "Who here are good in chess? Female only."

Since one of my family members taught me a week before school on how to play chess, i decided to raise my hand. Thinking that I wasn't just the only. Turn out I was. Everyone looked at me startled, even that guy, Greg.

"Wonderful, perfect timing. You will be immediately in the chess club."

Without knowing what was going on, I effortlessly agreed, not knowing what I got myself into.

Turns out, my adviser was the one in charge of the chess club, so I wasn't actually nervous.

When the other students went to their respective club rooms, I was just sitting at my chair, waiting, when suddenly, I notice this boy, looking at me, very strangely. I decided to look away and forget what I saw. The bad part was, he's my classmate. Then the chess club started, to me it was actually just nothing. Playing chess with your other fellow chess members was just easy enough, that I need not worry.

Greg turns out is a basketball player, he's actually the Vice President of the club. Which makes him a brilliany player.. i think.

Days passed, I still didn't have the courage to talk to Greg, which made me think. Why would I even bother?

It was already September, there was this competition called DACS. ( I forgot the meaning but I promise I'll tell you as soon as I remember it.) Before it was starting. My adviser, told me that I would be the representative for the girls chess team. My partner would also be a girl named Nina. She's small but she's pretty good. She's the most brilliant chess player I've ever known.

The boys also had one to. There names were Tyson and Lucas, Tyson was the guy who looked at me very strangely but instantly I hated him. Lucas was just the very same with Tyson. They were both mean and arrogant.

So 2 teams, Boys and Girls for Chess elementary composed of two people. I asked my adviser if there was a high school category. It turns out there was. Suddenly, a guy, a teacher I think. came up to my adviser, I call him Sir G.

"Good Morning,Sir" said the teacher

"Good Morning, Sir Lo."

"Is she the new chess player?" talking about me obviously.

"Yes she is. Her name's Sam. Where are your boys?"

When Sir G  asked this, I thought he was talking about Sir Lo's sons.

Then, like on cue, a handsome guy wearing a blue shirt that looked ridiculously cool on him came up to Sir Lo.

"Sorry I'm late Sir." he said laughingly

"Haha! James! of course you aren't late."

I just stayed quiet, being as I was.

"James, how are you?"

"I'm fine sir. And you? Hi Nina." he said with the most obsessive smile.

Then another guy with the most interesting teeth came up to them wearing a yellow shirt. Sir Lo just patted him on the back.

Nina just waved and smiled. I was a bit shocked because I was the only one who never knew them, completely strangers in my eyes. I talked to Nina about it..

"Nina, who are they? and who's that guy that just said hi to you?"

"That's James and Gino, their also a chess players. That's Sir Lo, their coach. They're the representatives from the High School Division."

"Ohh"

Then Sir G, noticed me and Nina talking. He grabbed me unexpectedly and placed me right next to him.

"This is Sam. She's our new chess representative in Chess."

"Hi" James said smilingly.

When he said that, my heart began to beat fast. I started to smile too, I think it was more of a blush. I just said a very silent "Hi" and quickly ran back to Nina who wasn't that far at all.

When I got there, I was still smiling, and I didn't even notice it.

"Hey, are you blushing? Is it James?!?" She said, teasingly laughing.

"Of Course not! I don't even know him that well."

"Sure.." she said with a smirk.

"Maybe your the one who has a crush on him!"

"No way!"

"Haha! Dude, common, its pretty obvious." I said smirking and laughing

"I don't have a crush on him."

I thought she got mad, cause her face was pretty red, but then she laughed, and I started to laugh too. We were already sitting on the floor, more like on the grass.

Then we were all interrupted by the very loud speaker phone. Nina went to Sir G.

"Representatives from all schools, please go up to the stairs and find you positions"

Right there, on the spot where speaker said it, my heart began to beat fast, my stomach began to feel weird, I think I was starting to get pale. I felt like I had a fever. I felt like I was gonna pass out. I was nervous my sight was going nuts. I looked at the grass. Trying to calm myself down.

"Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm totally fine. Actually I'm not." I wans't looking at the person who said that.

"Its okay. It's your first time to represent the school right?"

"Yeah."

"Then all is understood. Just focus on the game and don't mind the others."

"Thanks."

When I decided to look up, I felt so shocked and my heart slowly calmed down, The guy was smiling at me. I smiled back. I was blushing again. It was James.

"Ready for the game?" he asked.

"Ready."
