Moving out

Morning.

The morning light tried to break through the barrier of the plastic covered wooden mattress.

"You didn't sleep." Jay didn't ask, seeming that he already knew my answer.

"I was watching, but nothing happened," I replied tiredly. Being awake late for work and being awake late for safety seemed to have different affects.

I was afraid, and driven to be awake by fear. Fear that exhausted me to the point of being weak.

    "Instead there were noises."

I recalled hearing the world outside. How it groaned and growled, even cried every time the rain kissed the miserable things outside.

"We need to leave, it isn't safe here anymore." Jay spoke sternly. I only nodded in agreement.

"I'll pack up whatever food we can use, you wake them up, tell them we're moving." My tired voice chalked out as I slid the wooded frame to continue on my mission.

Time passed and as a result I had earned two backpacks full of peanut butter, canned fruits, canned vegetables and canned beans.

"Where are we going to go?" Hosuh asked me as he walked into the kitchen. He to had a bag, though his way filled with water and batteries.

    "Somewhere safe."

"How do we know if it's safe outside?"

"It won't be safe in here much longer," Jay spoke, budding into our conversation.

"It's best we move out now and end up in a safer place where this hasn't hit yet, rather than staying here and letting it consume us."

Hosuh had a look of disagreement but nodded his head, tightening his grip on the straps of his bag and pushing past Jay, heading to where Stephen was in the living room.

With a small sigh, I switched off the lights that were on in the house. Placing my keys on the counter, knowing well enough that we were most likely to never come back.

    "Let's go."
