Aww crap! Not good! What do I do now?! I'm surrounded by these five boys and I can't think of any way to get out of it. My plan has been successful until now.
"There's no need to hurry. Come and spend some time with us, okay?" one of the boys standing in front of me said.
Try to think girly. Think girly! I thought to myself. "No, I-I'm sorry but, I can't. I already have plans for the afternoon and you guys have school anyways." I said in a girly voice. I grinned a bit and tried to leave but, due to the fact that I'm a 'girl' right now they won't take "no" for an answer.
He grabbed my arm and said to me in a joyful voice, "Come now, we don't see girls very often around here. It'll be just the six of us. What do you say?" The others smiled and agreed with him.
I was starting to get impatient. "Sorry, but I don't have the time for you guys." I yanked my arm away and turned to the gate.
"No! You're coming with us, you little bitch." speaking in an upset tone. He took both my hands and held them tight.
"Ugh! You're wasting my time!" I shouted. "Now, let go!" I kicked him in between the legs with my heel.
"Ahh!" he finally let me go and fell to the ground. I rushed off but, it was too hard to run in high heels. Two of them caught up to me and stopped me.
Give me a break! They pushed my back to where the others were and I just stood there trying to find another way out of it again.
The guy that I kicked stood up with a red face. He took hold of my hair and pulled my head back. "You bitch!" his hand rose and swooped down to hit me.
"Hey!" a shout came from the door. The hand stopped half way. They looked over to the door and saw a teacher. "Stop that right now!"
"Oh shit! It's a teacher!" a boy cried. "I'm not getting my ass in anymore trouble." With that said, he and the other boys took off. In a blink of an eye they were all out of sight.
As I watch them go, the teacher came over and placed his hand on my shoulder. I was startled and looked up and to that I was even in more shocked to find out that the teacher was in fact Mr. Min.
"Mr. Min!" I yelled out loud, unknowingly. Oh no, why did I say his name?! He's going to find out it's me!
He looked a tad bit surprised but, that subsided in an instant. "Yes, that's my name." he said, "And how would a pretty girl like you know that? Moreover, why are you here?"
"Oh, uh," I tried to think of the best excuse that popped up in my mind, "I was trying to visit a dear friend of mine but, he doesn't seem to be here at the moment."
"Oh, really?"
"Yes, really. Do you not believe me? Do you think that I'm lying to you?" I said getting a little too defensive.
"No, no. It's not like that." He said worried. "It's just odd to see a girl on campus at this hour. Anyways," he changed the subject to avoid any conflict, "are you all right? Those boy didn't hurt you did they?"
"Not at all. I kicked one of them between the legs." I said with a big grin on my face.
"Eh?" he shrieked then he just busted out laughing and I couldn't help but join him as well. "I guess you didn't really need my help after all."
"I'm sorry," I said, but I couldn't stop giggling. "But, I must take my leave."
"Well, if you don't mind, can I escort you out? I'm planning to leave too."
"I don't mind at all." I said with relief. I wasn't found out! As we were about to leave, I looked at the time and I had five minutes to spare.
"May I ask," Mr. Min spoke, "how you knew my name? Does your friend have any of my classes?"
"Oh, I just heard it in the hallway." I answered with a straight face.
"Is that so? Then, can I ask what your name is?" He looked at me.
"P-" No! I can't use my real name! I thought "Pearl. It's Pearl."
"Okay, Pearl, where are you going after you leave here?"
I sighed, "Boy, you sure do ask a lot of questions."
"Really? I'm sorry." He said turning his head the other way.
"Heh, it's fine." I responded. "I was planning to walk to the hospital. It's a short walk from here. I'm going to see yet another friend of mine."
He turned to me again. "The hospital? Then I'll take you there too. I don't have anymore classes for the rest of the day and I'm on my way there right now anyways."
"Okay. That's fine with me." I said. Great, I'll have to be in this outfit even longer. Not that I don't already know where he's going.
We were walking down the street on our way to the hospital. Not many people are out right now. I could already see the corner of the hospital building. Then, I notice that there was an awkward silence in the air. We were just walking, not even saying a word to each other. I was thinking what to say next.
"Pearl?" he suddenly spoke.
"Hm?" I looked at him, ready to listen and ready to answer anything.
"About your friend..." he began with a nervous look on his face.
"How'd he got in the hospital?" I finished the rest of his sentence.
He stared to me, "Yeah, that..."
"Well, he's a very clumsy person, you see." I started to make up the story. "So, one day he decided to be clumsy at the wrong time and tripped down the stairs. He broke a couple of bones and is in the hospital for the past week now."
"Oh, I see." He looked down.
"But, he'll be out in another week or so. He'll still have to be in a cast though. Anyways, what about you?" A look of uneasiness crossed his face. "Oh, you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Ah! What was I thinking!? Asking him a question like that!
"It's fine. You've answered plenty of my questions. It's only fair if I answered some of yours." He said with a sigh. "My brother is in the hospital right now. He fell off the roof of the school, because he was crazy in love with someone."
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I hope he'll be all right." I told him. I can still remember Colin falling to the ground so clearly. It was entirely my fault. I couldn't save him. I was so close, but he was just too far away.
We stopped at a stoplight waiting to cross the street. I looked at him and saw that he was deep in thought. The traffic light turned red and the cars stopped. I waited for him, but he didn't move. "Is something the matter?" I decided to ask.
"Huh?" he was finally out of his trance. "Oh, it's nothing. Come on, let's cross the street." As he stepped out onto the street the crossing light started to blink, then it changed to red. I was still on the sidewalk, but he was still walking carelessly. A truck was coming and didn't notice him on the road.
Oh no! He's going to get hit! The truck was going at a normal speed, but I knew that it wouldn't have enough time to stop even if the person in it saw Mr. Min. "Watch out!" I screamed at him at the top of my lungs.
He turned his head only to see that a truck was about to run him over. His legs came to a dead stop. He was frozen in place and couldn't move an inch. Without thinking, my legs started move, I sprinted straight to him. It was like I dared myself to race with a speeding truck. The truck driver finally realized that there were people on the road, he slammed on the brakes. I was only inches away from him, but so was the truck. With my last step on the ground, I jumped and tackled him hard. We flew a good five feet before we hit the ground and the truck stopped about fifteen feet away from where Mr. Min was standing.
The guy in the truck shouted, "Hey! Watch where you're going!" Then he drove off.
When I was able to open my eyes I realized that I was on top of him. He's eyes were wide open looking at me. "Oh! I'm sorry!" I cried. I got up and went to the other side of the road. Without saying a word he stood up and followed behind me. I turned to him and asked, "Are you okay? You're not hurt or anything, are you?"
He shook his head, "No, I'm fine."
"That's good to hear." I said with a smile.
"You just saved my life. I owe you one."
"It's okay. We're almost to the hospital." I looked over to him. "We can't stop here."
"Yeah," he agreed. Then he tapped the side of his head. "You're hairclip, it's about to fall off."
"Oh? Is it?" I took it off to readjust it. My hair fell to my face all at once.
"Ah! Wait a minute!" Mr. Min exclaimed. He came closer for a better view of my face. "I know you, don't I?"
Crap, I'm busted! I turn to face the other way. "What do you mean? We never met before." I said while applying the clip as fast as I can. He took a hold of my shoulder and spun me around to face him. "Is something wrong?" I asked pretending not to know anything. He snatched the hairclip out of my hair and my hair flopped to my face again. "Hey!"
"Pet?!" He said, dumbfound, "Is that you?"
"No, I'm his evil twin here to take over the world!" I shouted, "Now give that back!" I reached for the clip, but I couldn't extend my arm very far because of the horrible pain that ran through my right arm. "Ahh!"
"What's wrong? Are you all right?" he asked worried. I raised my arm to see why it hurt so much. "Oh, you're bleeding! There's a gash on your arm!"
"Well, we can't stop here," I said again. "Right?"
"Uh, yeah." He mumbled, "Let's go."
When we got to the hospital I was tended to right away. I got stitches that were an inch and a half long. When that was done with I went to the family restroom to change into my outside clothing that I kept in the small cat-face backpack. As soon as I was finished I went to the waiting room. There I found Mr. Min waiting for me.
"Did you already see him?" I asked.
"Yeah, I just got out of his room." He replied. "How's your arm?"
"It's fine now. It was only a flesh wound. Don't worry about it." I said as I took a seat next to him.
He gave out a long sigh, and then looked at me. "You did all this just to see Colin?"
I smiled at him. "Well, if the story about my friend falling down the stairs were true, then I'd be in his room right now."
"But, that was a lie from the start, wasn't it?"
"Right. That was the only thing I could think of when you asked me about my friend in the hospital."
"Why did you go to such length?"
"Because you wouldn't let me see him."
"No, not like that. What I meant was, is there a reason why you wanted to see him?"
"Yes, there was reason behind it all."
He waited to hear my reason, but I didn't say anymore. So he asked, "And what would that be?"
"To talk."
"About?" he raised his eyebrow.
"You ask too many questions, you know."
"Come on, just tell me." He said, wanting to know the answer.
I gave him a big grin, "It's a secret!" I stood up. "Okay then, I'll go to see him now."
"Uh, hey!" he said. He was like a little kid that wanted to know everything.
"Hm?" I looked at him innocently.
Mr. Min sighed and gave up trying to get the answer from me, "I would have never thought I'd see you smile so many times in one day." He point to the hallway and said, "He's down the hall, second door to the left." I giggled and thanked him.
When I got to the door that was numbered 104 it had the name 'Min, Colin' under it. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer. My hand turned the handle slowly. The door opened silently. As soon as I got a clear view of the room I saw Colin's head facing me. His eyes were staring dead at me. He was covered in casts and bandages from head to toe.
"Hello." He said, then he turned his head to face the ceiling once again.
"Hey there." I greeted him. I closed the door behind me. The room was almost noiseless, with the exception of the heart monitor beeping ever few seconds. I crept to him in small steps. My mouth was open, but I hesitated to speak. The words in my mind were jumbled and I didn't know where to start. I closed my eye and took a deep breath, then reopen them again and started, "Do you remember that day just a week ago? On the windy rooftop of the school, I said to you that I didn't think that I could love you."
He kept still and wordless.
"When you tumbled to the ground I begged you not to leave me, but you closed your eyes. I thought you were going to die when you shut those eyes of yours. After you were gone I cried for the rest of the day and the whole next day too. The crying stopped when my eyes were too dried and too tired to cry for me anymore. I blamed myself for what happen to you and I still do now. I thought of only you the past week every hour, every minute. I couldn't eat and I couldn't sleep for days until I passed out from exhaustion. That was to first time I slept in three days." I was standing over him, looking down on him. His eyes were half opened. I sat on the chair that was beside his bed.
"You're crazy." He whispered.
"I had to do some crazy things just to get here." I said happily. "But you know what, Colin?" His pupils shifted over to me. "I didn't know what was happening, but before I knew it I had already fallen in love with you." I peered into his eyes. "I regretted saying those words to you on the rooftop. For that I'm deeply sorry." I looked away. "I don't care if you hate my guts right now. I just wanted to apologize."
"I can never hate you." He spoke softly. "I'm still in love too."
I was so glad to hear those few words come out his mouth. Tears started to form in my eyes. I stood up and kissed him on the lips. "You don't know how happy you just made me."
He grinned, "Same here." His eyelids slowly got heavier, they soon shut.
"Colin?" I held his hand stiffly.
"Wai-" he struggled to talk. "Will, you wait for me?"
"Yes!" I cried. "My feelings belongs to you. I'll wait for as long as I have to, for you." The smile faded from his face and he seems to be sound asleep. I stayed for another five minute, then left the room.
The next day the doctor told Mr. Min that Colin was in a coma. He told me this, but I wasn't saddened by the news. After all, Colin told me to wait and that was all I could do.
A year passed since then. Life was normal again. It was like nothing ever even happened. Most of all the students have forgotten about Colin.
One day, boxes were sent to my room in the morning and I was told not to open any of them. That night as I was getting ready for bed someone knocked on my dorm room door. Who could that be this late a night? I thought. "Who it is?" I asked.
"It's me." the voice answered.
"Huh?" I pondered. I went to the door to open it, but it unlocked itself. I was taken by surprised. When the door swung open I couldn't believe it. My face clearly showed that I was extremely shocked. I could have choked on the air that I was breathing. "C-Colin?!"
"Hi, roomie."
