Sabine sat by herself in the cockpit of her Mandalorian Kom'rk Class Ship as it flew through hyperspace. 'Ten years,' she thought to herself. Ten years she had bean searching for him. There were times where she wanted to give up, where she wanted to just drop it all and go home, but his last words always stuck with her. "I'm counting on you," but what did it mean? To find him?
That's what she had assumed, but he had left no clues whatsoever to where he might be. She had searched system after system, planet after planet, searching for signs that he might still be out here. But until approximately three weeks ago, all she had gotten was radio silence. Then she had the dream, the dream of an uncharted star system and a set of coordinates.
She just knew it had been him to plant it in her head, it had to be. It was an icy environment she had seen. Similar to Hoth, but with more cliff edges. God, just thinking about Yavin made her feel old. Although she was only thirty, she was just sixteen when she had met Ezra, and the two had grown close during their time together.
However Ezra had defeated Thrawn by sacrificing himself to the far reaches of space, shooting them off to the unknown reaches.
He had trusted her to help rebuild his home, and she upheld that promise. Lothal was now a prosperous trading city like it had been in the glory days of the Republic. But after the Empire fell, Sabine had set out to find Ezra and bring him home.
Unfortunately, to no avail. She had searched hundreds of star systems by this point, but there was no trace. Eventually the years passed by, Senator Organa had rebuilt the Republic, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker had rebuilt the Jedi Academy, and the Ghost Crew had gone their separate ways. The only one still involved was Hera, and even she was thinking of leaving soon.
Jacen was ten now, and he had already been sent to Luke for training. It had been months since she had seen them, and years since she had seen Zeb, who had retreated to Lasan, where he was looking after his own race. It had all fallen apart, but in a good way. And now there was just her, sitting in a cockpit alone, waiting for yet another one of her leads to turn cold.
A beeping started in the cockpit letting her know she was approaching the destination, so she released the lever on the control console, and the blue vortex faded back to the stars, and in the distance, an icy looking planet, where the coordinates given to her were leading her. She landed the ship on the closest flat sheet of ice to the coordinates, got out and started roaming around.
Luckily the weather was calm, but like most ice planets it would be prone to change with the snap of her fingers. She searched and searched and searched, until she got to the edge of a large cliff a few miles away from her ship. She looked down, and her heart dropped. Lodged in the side of the cliff face, broken and battered, was the wreckage of an Imperial Star Destroyer.
The cliff was tall, and it was even a big jump down to the bridge of the ship. The ship itself looked to be mostly intact, but the only point of entry should could see were the smashed windows leading to the bridge of the ship. Sabine booted up her jetpack, letting it heat up for a moment in the cold weather, then jumped off and flew down to the windows, landing on her knees when she cut the power. Her knees hit hard on the floor, jetpacks were something she was definitely out of practise with.
The bridge seemed eerily quiet, she was used to seeing them with Imperial personnel buzzing about the place, but this place clearly hadn't been stepped in for years. Cables hung from the ceiling like cut veins running through the ship, there was no getting the power back on, or just maybe... She went over to one of the monitors and started pushing buttons.
She got a few blips and a few lights, although flickering, switching on. She gave the computer a good whack, and the screen flickered, the image was unstable, but not unreadable. It asked her if she wanted to initiate the system, she optioned for yes, and the screen switched to a video feed. It took her a moment to realise it, but she was looking at the bridge.
It looked how it did now, ruined beyond repair, but then a familiar face jumped in front of the camera, one she had not seen for a long, long time. Ezra, this time with a growing beard, but looking no older than the day he disappeared. He had cuts and scars over his face, probably from the crash landing. "Sabine, if you ever find this recording, just know that if it wasn't for you, I would never have found the courage in me to do this." She could already feel the tears prickling at the side of her eyes.
"It was the only way I could save Lothal from The Empire. When Thrawns ship disappeared, the forces that were supposed to launch the counter attack on Lothal came looking for the Chimaera, which I have since learned is the name of the Star Destroyer you're standing in. I'm not sure how long I'll be here for, but I doubt I'll be finding a way off any time soon.
And well, if I am dead by the time you get here, then I suppose I should say I lo-" the recording cut out and the screen went dark. Sabine wiped the tears in her eyes away, and turned to look around the room. then she decided to go and explore, roaming through the endless corridors, each one looking the same. She came across stormtrooper bodies and old droids.
Each one had lost power long ago. What she did notice though, is that some of the troopers bodies had slashes across their chests, some were even missing limbs. Eventually she got to the cell block, all the cells were open, except for one. She switched on the torch in her gauntlets and cut the door open, revealing a skeleton lying on the bed, wearing a white Grand Admiral Uniform.
"So," Sabine said to herself, "you got what you deserved." She holstered her blasters and made her way back up to the bridge, activated her jetpack and flew back up to the top of the cliff. She noticed that the wind had picked up a bit, a blizzard was on its way, and the ship was still far from where she was. She didn't want to use the pack unless absolutely necessary.
She started trudging through the snow, using the visor in her helmet to help her see clearly though the storm as it picked up. After a couple of hours she checked the distance she still had too go, and it was quite considerable. She tried her jetpack, but it had frozen out of power. The light storm had turned into a full blizzard, and it was dark out. She trudged her way through the snow, her armour barely keeping her warm.Eventually, she couldn't take it, her vision had become blurry as she slipped into unconsciousness. She fell to the ground, her joints freezing up. The last thing she saw before she went under was a cloaked figure, blurry in the dark, making it's way towards her.
