Heartbreak is silent.
It creeps up on you
when you
think you
have it all under control.
It happens slowly, with a comment here, and a 'joke' there.
It digs deeply under your skin
crawling its way up your spine
until it bursts it's way out of your mouth.
This is the only way you know
how to stop the pain.
Keep it all at bay.
Whatever you do
don't let the pain
slides its way
inside your heart.
Protect that beating spirit
the way that she would
if she were here.
'Don't let him break you'
I think.
It has become my mantra.
What I live and breath by.
So I fight back with my mind
And use my words as my armour.
But later,
When I am surrounded by joy that
Feels like it slides through my grasping fingers
just simply out of reach.
I know the truth.
My silence tells me what I cannot accept.
'Don't let him break you'
I think.
But Heartbreak is silent ...
And I know that he already has.
