The Departure

Gramps had made the decision that it was time to go home and leave the military contracting world behind. With many time zones and hours between them, he used Facebook messenger to contact his kids and tell them the good news! He knew that his newly married son and son in law would be elated when they heard the news that he had thoughtfully chosen to park his beloved 27-foot home in the backyard of their house in Oklahoma.

Still on cloud nine from giving the good news to his adult children, he then sent a message to his close friend who was storing all of his items. He knew that his car, truck, camper, go kart and surf boards were all in good hands in his absence, but it was time to go home and enjoy them! Next, he contacted his girlfriend who was more than ready to see him again but might have had a little trepidation at the prospect of spending more than 2 weeks with him. But, then again, what could possibly go wrong?

Then, he started his move home by contacting his manager in Kuwait, saying his goodbyes to his fellow brothers who worked along side him and boarding a C-130 to Kuwait to start out-processing and joining the civilian life. Once in Kuwait, management had become aware of the fact that Gramps was a nudist and kindly set him up in his own apartment where he could be free, be himself and not offend any of the locals during his short 2 day stay.

After checking in for his flight to the states, he sat down and enjoyed a delicious meal while he reminisced upon the past two years in Iraq, the vacations to many countries, his adventures in Italy and the many new friends he had made along the way. It was time to board the plane and start his life; The Barely Normal Life.

The Travel

Once Gramps had boarded the plane and was comfortable in his seat, his mind drifted back to when the kids were young, and they needed their ol' dad. Back when a scrape was an adventure and childhood magic was everywhere. Next, he reminisced about all those years ago when he realized he was a nudist. Back when he stripped down for all to see who he really was. The long flights seemed so short and the next thing he knew, he was landing in small town Brunswick, GA. Standing there to greet him was his old
friend with the keys to his truck.

On the way to his friend's house, he stopped at the local drive thru package store to get a six pack to celebrate his homecoming. 20 minutes later, he was reunited with his home on wheels. He quickly got busy setting up his home by letting the sides out, hooking up the cables and water and turning on the radio for a little music and relaxation. Ahhhh this was the life!

Waking up after the first morning back in his tiny home, he was greeted by his long-distance girlfriend who had flown in to GA to help drive his few belongings out to Oklahoma. Together, they researched nudist resorts to stay at on their journey and then they hit the road. Each location was a new tiny adventure and area to explore. During the long drive, they got to learn even more about each other and what makes them tick. In the mornings they would gather everything, tie it all down and head to their next overnight location. Their final journey to Oklahoma just added to their long list of new experiences and friends. They were excited to share all of the details with his non-nudist family and friends.

The Arrival

The last morning of the trip, Gramps awoke bright and early full of fear and excitement. How could he sleep at a time like this? He knew that soon he would be giving big hugs to his family that he missed so much. But he had concerns. He wondered how or if they would accept him. Would they accept him after the years away?

Making that last right-hand turn to his son's house, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He quickly located a spot to park his home and as the truck came to a stop, his family came barreling out of the house as he hopped out of the truck. All 6 of them stopped dead in their tracks. Was it really that quick? Had they already written him off? Gosh, it sure is breezy out here in Oklahoma. His shorts......were in the truck. He ran as fast as he could back to the truck, threw on his shorts and walked towards the house with his girlfriend. Once everyone peered out the windows and saw that he was fully clothed, they ran out to meet him and give them both hugs. He smiled and laughed as they all walked into the house. He laughed because they had no idea what was to come. He laughed because he had no idea what was next. Laughter really is the best medicine. He couldn't wait for his new life to begin. To let The Barely Normal Life, begin.
