A small dragons sat perched in a tree, not a normal tree, this tree was carved from stone by the humans. It made a very useful perch for the horse sized dragon who was currently watching a group of much larger dragons performing in the sky far above her. This dragon went by the name of Rocket. Rocket was a runt. In dragon culture runts are supposed to be killed the second they hatch. Rocket hatched in the care of humans. She was the first dragon hatched within the human city, and they protected her. Rocket lived among the humans in the city of magic. Not the most creative name but it was fitting. The city was filled with magic. Hundreds of witches and wizards lived within these walls along with many magical creatures including dragons. The city was built around three large ,ancient, trees. These trees were where the dragons and several other magical creatures made their homes. Flying creatures lived among the branches while walking creatures lived among the roots. These trees are larger than anything you can imagine they tower over the largest buildings in the city.

Rocket forced herself to stop watching the dragons who were still performing in the sky, she glanced over to where a Phoenix was perched on the other side of the tree. The fiery bird was preening it's feathers but stopped to return Rockets stare. After a silent staring contest the bird took off leaving Rocket alone in the tree. With a sad sigh the small red dragon started her decent. She spread her wings and glided down to the ground landing on the soft grass with a thump. Not far away a pair of unicorns stood grazing on the grass, the beautiful horses raised their head and neighed a greeting before returning to eating. Rocket could stand shoulder to shoulder with the unicorns who were no larger than and average horse.

She returned the greeting with a simple roar before turning to leave the park. She was in one of the large parks that surrounded the ancient trees. Each tree had a park around it that was so filled with plant life it was practically a forest. The stone tree was one of Rockets favorite places in the city. It was in the center of a large clearing often surrounded my beautiful unicorns and strange deer with antlers made of precious's stones. She trotted thought the trees until she reached the large gate that led into the park. Outside the gate was a large market place filled with humans peddling their wares to travelers. The city was more crowded than normal, in just a few days was the magic festival, it was only the largest event of the year and everyone was excited.

The magic festival brought humans, elves, and magical creatures from all over. To celebrate, witches and wizards would sell potions, charms, and scrolls. The magical creatures would display their abilities throughout the city. While the elves sold magical lights, and enchanted weapons. If you asked anyone what the most amazing part of the night was they would say it was the boding ceremony. This year Rocket would be participating in the bonding ceremony. Dragons and humans who are within the age range of 13-15 would be brought together at the foot of the largest ancient tree in the city. You could only bond with a creature of similar age to yourself. Rocket has turned thirteen this year so all the humans were excited hoping she would bond.

A bond was a magical connection between a human and a dragon. Rocket wasn't even sure she could bond since she was a runt, but that wouldn't stop the humans from hoping. Rocket jumped startled as a loud trumpeting noise echoed over the city. Curious Rocket leapt from the street to the nearby wall of the park. She had to scramble slightly with her hind legs to get on top of the wall but other than that she had little trouble. She looked up, the trumpeting noise was announcing a new arrival, not just any new arrival that trumpet meant new dragons were coming. Rocket stood up on her hind legs balancing carefully on the wall and looked around, there, in the distance she could make out two shapes. Both of them looked to be normal sized dragons. One seemed to be a mix of several colors and the other one looked white.

A powerful gust of wind hit Rocket from behind and she almost tumbled off the wall barely managing to catch the wall with her front talons before she fell over the edge. The was an amused snort behind her. Resisting the urge to growl she swiftly turned around to see a green dragon hovering not far from where Rocket was. "Aww did the itty bitty baby almost fall" she gave him a hard glare as he just laughed. "See ya runt" he snarled on the last word before sending another powerful gust of wind at her and flying off. She growled after him before leaping down from the wall. Some of the humans gave Rocket a sympathetic look as she walked off.  She strode down the streets doing her best to look unfazed. She hadn't gotten to see where the new dragons landed thanks to the rude greens interruption and was a little upset she would have liked to get a closer look. She wandered down random streets through different markets and squares until she stopped. She was at the gate of the center park. She looked up at the distant branches above her wishing and longing that she could be among them, but the other dragons didn't like her near them. Instead she lived among the roots with some other creatures, she was rather good friends with the pack of giant wolves who lived at the foot of the tree, she often slept with them under their root. She decided against going to see the wolves and instead went to her own hollow. The hollow was her project, she had spent months carving and using her fire to hollow out a part of the tree where she could live. The tree was plenty thick enough that her fire hadn't cause any damage and she had room to expand. She reached the roots quickly and hauled herself up on top of them before continuing to walk. She continued up using the roots like stairs until she reached her hollow.

She was about to step inside when she heard a roar. She turned around, two dragons she had never seen before were hovering over the forest not far away seemingly locked in a heated argument. She was extremely curios. Slowly she leapt from root to root until she reached the tree line. She carefully climbed through the tree branches. Though the forest trees were nowhere near as tall as the ancient trees they were still plenty big enough for Rocket to climb through them with no trouble. She stopped directly under them and paused to listen to what they were saying.

So what did you guys think! It took me awhile to actually rewrite this but I like what I've done with it. Don't worry if you had a character in the old book I will bring them into the story here as well but they might not play the same role they played last time. I really hope you guys like my rewrite!
