Gretchen sat in the back of the classroom, which was flooded with conversing seventh graders. Girls hunched or leaned against boy's desks hoping that they will notice the thing they call "Cleavage" underneath their shirts. God, please just let the goddamn bell ring and end my misery. she thought to herself as the most annoying girl headed towards Gretchen. Marie Clarke had long blonde hair and always wore a stupid smile that read -I'm Popular, Respect Me-
"Gretchen Vaughngo! Long time no see." She chirped in her normal voice which is laced with the sweetest of sugar. The sound of her voice could sicken anyone with a smile that would reach from ear to ear A.K.A it was very forced.
"Hi, um, just it's Vaughn not-" Gretchen stammered before the screeching of the bell filled the halls before being filled with students rushing out of the school. Gretchen quickly left the room before having to deal with the very hyper Marie.
Gretchen ran onto the faded yellow bus the was already filled with kids, she took her seat in the back. The leather that touched her skin boiled from the harsh rays from the ball of gas in the sky well known as the sun. Gretchen shut herself away from the rest by plugging in the shabby white ear pods that blasted Sincerely Me from Dear Evan Hansen. The bus started to move, making the green trees rush by like a green picture, looking all the same.
........time skip.........
Gretchen soon walked into the conditioned house that helped her relax the tense muscles in her stomach, you have to suck in if you wanna look thin...she threw her bag onto her plain white bed that was barely considered made. From there, her eyes drifted to the nearest mirror where she could clearly see the sweat on her pale forehead which was slightly covered by the curly dark brown mess well known as hair.
Gretchen gagged at her appearance as she wiped off her sweat and changed into her long t-shirt and shorts before squeezing her short hair in a ponytail and pulling out little tuffs to frame her face. Suddenly a loud crash could be heard from the room next-door- Johnathan or Gretchen's older brother so to speak. Gretchen paused before running to his door and opening it to see a foreign sight, the tall boy with straight caramel hair shot his eyes to the girl. The eyes in which were laced with an unknown terror- the same boy that no to everyone but her, was scared.
"GET OUT NOW!" he screams with his hoarse voice. Gretchen couldn't, her body was frozen like water on a winters day. Johnathan's face was clearly stained with tears, his neck was covered with dark bruises with a smirking boy sitting on his bed.
"Who's that Nathan?" the muscular boy asked. He had olive skin and a defined jaw..nearly perfect except the fact all he had on was his boxers.
"She was just leaving Jay." Johnathan said before slamming the door in the poor girls face. Gretchen just stood still while her thoughts raced, searching for a type of explanation though it was quite clear. She made her way back to her bed sitting down before hearing a shout and the boy from earlier storm out of the house, but this time dressed in a plain red t-shirt and jeans.
Johnathan soon came into view with a pained expression which soon turned into tears before running after the boy.
-Johnathan's Pov.-
I ran to Jay, my heart aching much like the rest of my pathetic body. My eyes hurt, my arms hurt, my neck, everything hurts so bad..
"Jay! Please, you have to understand!" I yelled to the boy I thought I loved so much.
"Understand what? You aren't loyal?" Jay retorted coldly
"She's 12! What's wrong with you!?" I fired back. It's for Gretchen. For Gretchen. Gretchen.
Jay grew silent before walking away in anger, leaving me alone..all over again.
: Earlier that day :
"Who's that Nathan?" Jay asked. I could feel the smirk on his lips without even turning around.
"She was just leaving Jay." I said hoping that Gretchen could see how sorry I was. Though she probably couldn't. I closed the door and turned around to see Jay looking quite upset.
"What was that?" he asked as his thick eyebrows began to furrow.
"My sister that's all," I spoke softly getting straight to the point. She didn't matter right now, I did. "now can we move on from her?"
"Why don't we ask her to join? It'd be fun."
Now it was my turn to furrow my eyebrows, isn't that pedophilia? "No."
"Fine. Then I'm leaving you. We're over." He said gathering his things. Is he serious? He can't be, he's going to leave because of that?
"You're joking right this is so immature of you," I said as he walked out of the room "she's my sister."
: Back with Present Johnathan :
I walked over to the nearby bench in front of Starbucks..Jay's favorite place to get coffee. This so unfair, It's all my fault all of it is because of me. I'm stupid. I'm ugly. I'm fat. I'm worthless. I'm going to be alone foreve- "Hey, I saw you crying and thought you might want this." A blonde boy said handing me a coffee. His pale skin was tinted by the freckles that were clearly visible on his arms but not his face. His forest like eyes seemed to swallow up everything, and they swallowed me whole. I just sat and stared at him before I heard a light chuckle.
"Should I just leave it here or..?"
"No no no no sorry, um I just zoned out. Thank you." I said grabbing the cup making our fingertips graze against each other. Our eyes met and that's when I realized, maybe I won't be alone forever.
