When Shinsou was younger he heard many stories about soulmates. They were stories with happy endings to give kids hope and something to look forward to in the future. And Shinsou wanted to believe in them, that was why he waited patiently for his moment but the press ruined his chance at a nice ending and then Izuku came.

He had known almost instantly, something in his heart swelling painfully and telling him that this person was someone he could trust and rely on for the rest of his life. And his touch felt so good, like gentle, soothing kisses along his skin. He had foolishly thought that maybe he could find that glorious love story after all but Izuku didn't seem to want that.

They were heroes, yes, but did that mean they had to push aside love for such a thing? Shinsou had a dream of becoming a great hero and had, before, thought he didn't need anyone else to make that dream happen but he was wrong. If friends didn't stop him then how could a lover? He was pissed, beyond furious and just as equally confused. Because Izuku seemed like a hopeless romantic, not someone who would put his dream before anything else.

It was his driving force, but he could still make stops, right?

"Where ya looking, huh, Shinsou?" Monoma came up behind him from his perch on top of a building looking over a busy street."Brooding all alone again?! You're so pathetic!"

Shinsou could barely hold back the spew of insults he wanted to sprout and instead just let out an annoyed sigh. He could use his quirk right now and just make him disappear—he had done it before—and it was so damn tempting to do it again. All it would take was just a few words...

"What's this? Can't be bothered to respond?" Monoma got up real close behind him, standing next to him and looking over the street with an annoying smirk.

Shinsou buried his face in his mask and couldn't be bothered to react to Monoma's taunts."What are you doing here?" he asked instead."This isn't your usual hunting ground."

"The kind and gracious me wanted to see how his good friend was doing after that fiasco a few days ago." Monoma put a theatrical hand over his chest, wiping an imaginary tear with the other."To get your soul mark reveled so publicly like that is truly a tragedy. I feel for you, my friend. The life of a hero is a true struggle!"

Shinsou scoffed at his words. He knew Monoma long enough to tell when he was lying."Don't play coy. You just came to laugh in my face."

And, true to his words, Monoma did just that. His laugh was annoying as ever, so unnecessarily loud and pained. Shinsou wondered if Monoma was hurting himself when laughing like he did. It was a horrid sound.

"God, you're such an idiot, Shinsou!" Monoma laughed, voice breathless."What did you think would happen?! You gotta cover yourself better like me! So pathetic!"

"Stop calling me pathetic," Shinsou growled back."I couldn't help it and you know it."

"Sure..." Monoma finally caught his breath, looking out for a beat with a somewhat peaceful expression. He then raised a low, inquisitive eyebrow."Oh, it's Deku."

"What?!" Shinsou jumped up looking towards where Monoma was to see Izuku barreling down a roof using his power. He grew tense at just the sight of him and his mark burned and felt like it was choking him.

"Now what could All Might's little protégé be doing here?" Monoma hummed."Last I heard, this wasn't his territory either."

"What does it matter?" Shinsou mumbled, trying to back away from the ledge so he wasn't seen."Probably just chasing a villain or something."

And just then, as if he had heard him, Izuku's eyes locked onto Shinsou's. They both stared at each other for an unnervingly long time until Izuku moved, vaulting himself off the building he was on to greet the two of them on the roof.

"Monoma, Shinsou..." he breathed, never taking his eyes off Shinsou. Just his gaze made him shiver."Ah, wait, I should be using hero names, right? Gosh, I always forget when I'm on the job, sorry." And then he was back to his usual mumbling mess of a self and Shinsou had to snap out of his trance.

They weren't together, yet they were soulmates. There was nothing there , yet there was still a bond. The mark on his neck felt like it was growing and choking him, refusing to be forgotten.

"Annoyingly kind as usual, Deku," Monoma laughed."I cant wait to surpass you and that hot-headed bastard."

Izuku laughed back."Good luck! Kacchan's strong!"

Monoma grumbled back angrily, not liking how his taunts didn't get to him, and Shinsou could only grit his teeth."What are you doing here?" he asked with barely controlled anger.

Izuku turned back to him and those wide eyes of his pierced and held him down. Shinsou felt like he was being punched in the gut and rubbed his mark irritably."I wanted to talk to you, Shinsou."

"Talk?"

But before Izuku could responded there was a loud explosion followed by a series of crashes and screams. The three heroes looked to the streets to find it incased in smoke with citizens running every which way to try and get away.

"Help us, heroes!"

"Somebody!"

Monoma smirked, readying himself to jump his way down onto the street."Well duty calls. You two have fun up here talking, this will be done before you can even blink." And then Monoma was off, hopping down the building to confront the villain. But there might be more than one and the other two heroes didn't want to risk it.

"We'll talk later," Izuku said, green sparks signaling the start up of his power.

"No, we wont," Shinsou said, pulling his mask fully over his face and grabbing the bandage around his neck."You made yourself clear at the hospital."

Izuku grabbed his arm before he could leave, forcing Shinsou to look at him. His eyes were wide and filled with sorrow."I know I was wrong, so let's talk this out! Please!"

He was desperate, that much Shinsou was sure of. The spark of hope in him forced himself to consider Izuku's words and his soul mark purred.

"Fine," Shinsou finally choked out."After this."

Izuku smiled brightly."Thank you, Shinsou!"

"So, what's the plan?" Bakugo asked, Todoroki walking back in from a drinking session with Izuku. It was the best way to get him to stop yapping and get straight to the point."Are we gonna wait for them or do we have to find some other lovestruck couple to put themselves on the map."

"They're not together yet," Todoroki said solemnly, swaying a bit at the doorway from also having drunk too much.

"Yet?" Bakugo raised an eyebrow, watching with amusement as Todoroki stumbled forward and rested his head on Bakugo's shoulder."Is that shit Deku gonna go for it?"

"I encouraged him..." Todoroki mumbled."Not sure if they're gonna announce anything, but knowing Shinsou's situation..."

"Yeah." Bakugo grinned madly."They're gonna do it."

Todoroki sighed at his tone, not liking his slightly raised voice."I wanna sleep. Tired..."

"Sloth," Bakugo snickered."I already readied the bath so clean up first. You reek."

Todoroki looked up at Bakugo, hearts in his eyes."I love you," he said, leaning in for a kiss which Bakugo easily deflected.

"You're breath stinks."

"You stink."

"Those are big words..."
