It was the day before spring break and I was super excited. My mom and dad was going on a trip to Spain without me, which meant that I had the house for myself a whole week. No one could tell me what I could and could not do. I had already planned to go out with my friends and wasn't sure what my parents would say to that, so I would probably lie about it. But first I had to get through the school day.
I sighed, turned off the alarm on my phone and stepped onto the floor. The floor was cold and sent shivers through my whole body. I decided to take a shower, that would warm me up. While the warm water calmed my body, I contemplated what I was going to wear tonight. It wasn't summer yet, so maybe something a little warmer. But on the other hand, we would be inside. Well, one thing was for sure. I would look beautiful. I smiled. This was going to be so fun, maybe I'd even drink. Not that I drank much, but this was a special day. I hadn't been out in a long time.
"Olivia! We leave in 10 minutes!" My mom called down the stairs. Shit! I hopped out of the shower and dried myself quickly. I glanced at the mirror, and what stared back at me was a pale brown haired girl who looked like she hadn't slept in days. I brushed my teeth, then applied some mascara, that was all I had time for.
"5 minutes!" Mom yelled. My outfit from yesterday laid on the bathroom floor. I put them on. It was a white blouse and a pair of black jeans. Good enough. I grabbed my bag and my phone from my bed and went out of my room and headed for the entrance. My vans were easy to slip on and I threw my black leather jacket over my shoulder. My parents were already in the car, so I locked the door and sprinted down to where the car was parked in front of the house."Maybe you should try to wake up earlier, Liv. You didn't even get to eat breakfast" My dad said from the passenger seat.
"I need my beauty sleep" I shrugged.
My dad was a tall man with long brown hair, the same color as I had. My mom had told him to cut it off so many times now, that I thought he was growing it as long as he could, just to annoy her.
My mom started the car, and then we drove off.
I opened my phone. I only had one notification, and it was from my news-app. Breaking news. King Henry the third has accepted five more years as a leader for our nation before giving up his role to his first-born son, Prince Thomas the second...
"How old is prince Thomas?" I asked.
"Doesn't he turn 19 this year?" dad wondered and looked at my mom.
"Yes, he's born in September. He's 18 now" She said. "Haven't you learned this in school Olivia?"
"probably, but I didn't pay attention" I said. "But that means a 23 year old is going to lead our country!"
"24. He'll get the job in October" my mom corrected me.
"That can't be smart? 24 is a little young to have that much power"
"The king is getting old. It's time. Besides, he'll have people to help him"
"He doesn't have a queen yet though" my dad turned around to wink at me.
"Funny" I answered and rolled my eyes. I looked at the article on my phone. There was several pictures of the prince. He was very good looking, but not my type. Anyway, who was I kidding. I had zero chance with someone like that. And I doubted he was allowed to date someone normal like me.The school day went by faster than expected. Maybe it was because I had so much on my mind. I could barely concentrate with my school work, when I was so focused about the upcoming party. During third period, Mr. Turner, my math teacher, told us to work on our own that class. He had to leave early because of a sick child. Of course I didn't do what I was supposed to. I spent the whole class gossiping with the one friend I had in that class, Lauren.
"So apparently Leo isn't invited tonight" Lauren said. Speaking so fast, I could barely follow. I liked Lauren, she was nice. But God, she needs to chill. "And no one understood why. I thought Leo and Hunter were good friends. TURNS OUT" I jumped in my seat. "Leo hooked up with Ashley, Hunters girlfriend!" Lauren almost shouted.
"Shh! Everyone can hear you, you know" I looked around me. Half of the people had left the classroom, not seeing the point of staying, now that the teacher wasn't there. The rest seemed to be working.
"Anyway" She continued, ignoring my comment. "They had a big fight, and Leo had to get stitches".
"Woah. Is he fine?" I asked.
"Who cares. He's an ass" She said and drew a heart in her book.
That was a little harsh. We used to be friends in middle school and he seemed to be pretty nice then. People change I guess. Or maybe theres just more to the story.
I changed the subject.
"So does Hunter have a big house?" I asked. Hunter was the guy hosting the party. He was a senior, like me.
"it's massive. They have a pool!" She said. "You are coming tonight right?"
"I'm planning on it" I smiled at her.
"Good" She said and packed up her stuff. "I'm meeting up with Mona. I have to tell her the news before somebody else does. See ya" She walked with quick steps out of the room. Her pink, long hair swayed from side to side as she walked. I was left with silence except for some scribbling pens.My mom picked me up after school. We didn't talk much during the ride. She only asked what I was planning on eating during the week. Honestly I hadn't thought about it, but I answered a bunch of random meals that sounded good at the moment. Like pizza and hamburger, but I didn't want her to worry, so I said I'd make a healthy salad too. She had apparently left some cash for me on the piano I could spend on food.
We were home, and it was time for my parents to leave for their trip. My dad loaded their suitcases into the trunk and my mom stood beside me in the hallway.
"If there is ANYTHING, you call us, okay?" She said.
"Of course" I answered half heartedly. "But nothing is going to happen. I will probably sleep most of the time" I answered truthfully.
"I feel bad that you aren't coming with us!"
"Honestly it's for the best. I don't think it would be that fun for me to hang out with you and your friends" I smiled at her and she smiled back.
"Yeah, I guess" She gave me a hug. My dad came into the room.
"I think she can handle being alone perfectly well. But no drinking!" He looked at me with serious eyes.
I swallowed.
"I won't" Thats a lie.
We said our goodbyes, then they walked together out the door. I stood still, waiting for them to leave. As the car drove away I winked until I couldn't see them anymore, turned around and slammed the door shut behind me. Finally! I turned the speaker on and played the first song I found on my Spotify playlist. The loud music filled the whole house. This was going to be a great week.
