"Dad woke up." "What?" "H- he woke up. He's awake. Like looking at me, talking to nurses." "I-I'll be there soon." I get out, pulling Sam towards his car. I hang up and turn to Sam to explain. "My dad woke up." I whisper, my voice doesn't seem to be able to get much louder. "Do you want me to take you to the airport?" I nod.

--

I rushed into the hospital, weaving around people to get to the front desk. "David Cabret." I say out of breath. "Room 177, floor 3." She says. I rush to the stairs, taking them two at a time.

I find the room and burst in, Elliot asleep in a chair and my dad talking to someone. "Ella." He says in disbelief. The person he was talking to takes a step forward so I can see that it's a lady. I stood there, frozen to the spot. "Ella." My dad says again, like its hard for him to grasp that I'm standing right here.

"You must be Ella. I've been told quite a lot about you." The lady takes a step forward, toward me. I take a step back only to run into the door. "I'm Alice, David's wife." I couldn't breathe. "W-wife?" I stutter. The room was beginning to spin. "Are you alright Ella?" A doctor comes in right as I black out.

-

"Ella. Elllllla. Elllllllllla. Eleanor." "Are you trying to get slapped?" I mutter, keeping my eyes closed. "You passed out." "I had no idea." I say sarcastically, sitting up and turning to Elliot. "Why'd you pass out?" "Maybe the fact that dad has another wife that I didn't know about?" "Oh, shes a witch." "She seemed nice." "It's called, acting." He says dramatically.

I slap him when I realize he's mocking me. "Ow! What was that for!" "Don't mock me!" He just laughs. "When can I get up?" I ask, looking around. "When the doctor says you can." "Then go get him." "Right." Elliot runs from the room and I sit up slowly, taking in my surroundings. The room was plain white, not much color except for the 3 chairs against a wall, but they were beige and extremely out of date.

"Elliot tells me you woke up, how are you feeling Miss Cabret?" "Fine." "Do you remember why you fainted?" "Everything was just a bit too overwhelming all at once." "What would everything be?" "My dad married another lady, he woke up, she was here, it was a lot to process." "I see, no bumps or bruises?" I shake my head. "Then you're free to go." "Thank you." I tell him before slowly standing up.

My brother and I walk back to dads room and see him talking with a nurse. We wait for him to leave then take a step in. "Ella, are you okay?" My dad immediately asks. "Yeah." I stay away from the bed and sit down in a chair. "Ella, you're so grown up." "Yeah." The sarcastic reply was natural for me, but it pained my dad.

"How are you?" "Okay I guess." "She's famous dad, she's a YouTuber and will be on some show, it's really cool dad." Elliot says. "A show, wow. I always knew you'd end up in show biz." "How? You didn't witness me growing up." I glared at him, the anger coming more freely.

"Wel- I- uh- just, when you were little, you always loved performing and singing, so I just assumed." He looks down, anywhere but me. "You should be in jail right now." I hiss. "I know that Ella. I know I made a mistake, and I do regret it. I regret ever leaving you and your mom and your little brother, okay? I regret it so much, but I wasn't happy there, yes, your mom used to make me so happy, but she just started getting selfish, like everything was meant for her. I got tired of it."

"So you just decided to leave a 7 and 5 year old alone with that? Was that your big plan?" "No, I had planned to come get you after a little bit but your mom said to never come back when I did, it was very late one night, and I just, I listened to her when I shouldn't have. I came here and started a new family about a year later, one that helped me forget about my mistakes of the past."

"How would Elliot let you forget that?" I cock an eyebrow, finally looking at him. "He didn't, so I started spending more time at work and then get home late, then stay in the bedroom for a lot of the weekend... Stuff like that." "So you avoided your own son, great parenting dad." "My wife took care of him. It's not like he wasn't cared for." "He said when you first went into your coma he went to an orphanage, I'm sure your wife was fantastic to him."

"What are you talking about? He was with Alice the entire time." I turn to Elliot who wouldn't look at either one of us. "You lied to me? Did you do it so I would feel bad for you or something?" "No, I really did go to my friends house for a year, but that's because Alice went to London for a year to talk to doctors about dad..." He says quietly.

I shake my head at both of these guys, it was unbelievable what they could do. "Ill be going back to Cali, both of you, just, don't call me again." I walk out of the room and to the front desk. "Can you call me a taxi to the airport?" I ask the lady. She nods and calls.

I wait then get in, riding to the airport in silence, then buying a ticket to Los Angeles.

--

"They just, didn't even try and stop you?" Sam asks. I shake my head. "I'm sorry Ella." "It's whatever, I don't want to live with either one of them anyway so I guess it's better this way." "You still have everyone here in LA to keep you company." He smiles. "Exactly, I've got everything I need, right here." I lean back into his arms, the movie starting.
