I unlock the door with my key, and we step inside. 'Grandma?' I yell. 'In here honey!' we walk into the big living room, and she lights up when we see her. 'Oh my little wolfs! I've missed you both so much!' She says while she pulls both of us into a hug. 'Mason! What a surprise to see you here! Let me guess, didn't want to stay at Carol's place?' she says with a wink and we all laugh. 'Yeah... Rose said I could stay here, I hope that's okay with you..' He says. 'Don't be silly, of course that's okay!' she says, and he sighs out of relief. 'There is lasagna on the counter, just warm It up in the oven. I'm heading to bed, big day tomorrow, goodnight loves.' She says and she presses a kiss on both of our cheeks. 'Goodnight gran.' I say and we make our way to the kitchen.
'I sure missed her lasagna.' I say as I put it in the oven. 'oh yeah, me too.' Mason says while taking a bottle of wine out of the fridge, and pours us both a glass. 'So, what are we toasting on?' I ask him as he hands me a glass. 'On our reunion, of course.' I say as I blush. I take the heated lasagna out of the oven, and put it on two plates. We sit down at the small table next to the big windows, and eat. 'So Mason, I have to ask. Why didn't you come last summer?' I ask and he looks down. 'I had some... personal issues.' He says and I frown.
'Well, I have another question. Today I heard Carol, the sheriff and some mystery guy talking about Richard's death. Carol said he was killed, and the sheriff asked why he was affected by 'the vampire device'. What the hell were they talking about?' Mason frowns. 'I honestly have no idea. The only thing I heard was that there was a big fire in the city, and Richard was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.' He says and I bite my lip. 'Well, maybe they're not telling us everything.' I say and he nods. 'We will find out more tomorrow.' He says and I nod.

I lean against the wall, watching the sheriff talk to the mystery man again. 'Who's that with Carol?' He asks her while looking at Mason who is talking to Carol. Even though I am on a distance, I can hear them loud and clear. How? My ears are really good. Strong genes or something. 'That's Richard's little brother, Mason Lockwood.' The sheriff tells him. 'Is he on the council? Like John Gilbert was?' The mystery man says. The council... so, it is real? 'He's nothing like John. For one, he isn't a complete ass. He's not a believer either. He wants nothing to do with the council, he made that very clear. He's too preoccupied finding the perfect wave.' She says, making me chuckle. The part ways, and I look around.
'So, who are you and why were you listening to my conversation?' I jump a little when the mystery man suddenly appears next to me. 'Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm Damon Salvatore.' He introduces himself with a smirk. 'Rosalie Labonair.' I say as I shake his hand. He keeps holding it, while stepping closer and looking me deep into the eyes. 'Forget you heard my conversation, and that you ever met me.' He says with a weird tone and I raise an eyebrow.
'Well, that won't work on me.' I say with a smile. 'What the hell?' He says and then Mason joins us. 'Is everything okay here?' Mason asks. 'Of course, I was just introducing me to a beautiful girl.' Damon says with a smirk before walking off.

I walk around, through all the people. It looks like the whole damn town showed up. Ah, who am I kidding, they probably all did. I walk past Richard's office, and notice Tyler, breaking old photos and other stuff. I run in. 'Tyler! What are you doing?!' I say while grabbing his arms. 'Let go of me!' he yells and I push him against the wall. 'What the hell is going on with you?' I ask. 'I hate him!' I take a deep breath. 'Tyler, calm down, please.' I say while continuing to push him against the wall. He seems to calm down, and I turn him around and pull him in for a hug. 'I know it's hard. Let's just take a minute and then get over there.' I say and he nods. I take a glass of bourbon from the cabinet, and hand it to him. 'Are you giving me booze?' he says, laughing a little. 'Makes it easier.' I say with a smile. I check myself in the mirror one last time. I'm wearing a tight black dress, with the neckline and the sleeves from black lace. My hair up, black heels.
'Hey. You ready?' Mason asks, appearing in the doorway. I nod as I take his arm. 'I'll be there in a bit.' Tyler says before we leave the room. 'Are you okay?' I ask Mason. 'Yeah. Seen the circumstances.' He says I nod. 'Here we go.' I say with a sigh before we walk into the garden. Everyone is already seated, except for the family. Carol goes first, arm in arm with Tyler, and Mason and I follow. We sit down, and it all begins.

'Hey Gran.' I say as we enter the house and I put my keys on the table in the hallway. 'Hey sweethearts. How was the funeral?' I frown. 'Well... sad.' I say and she nods. She disappears back into her painting room. She spends almost all of her time in there. Mason and I walk into the kitchen. 'Do you want dinner, or just want to skip to desert?' I say while showing him my grandma's delicious chocolate pie. 'Hmm... I think I will go for... desert!' he says and we both laugh. We sit down on the bench swing on the porch outside the kitchen, with the pie and two forks.
'So, the council is real.' I say and Mason almost chokes on his pie. 'What?' he says. 'Oh, come on Mason. "personal issues"? Don't make me laugh. Just be honest.' I say and he sighs. 'Fine. I didn't want you guys to find out, so I thought it would make it all easier if I just stayed away from you all.' He says and I shake my head. 'Come on, Mason. Did you really think I didn't know? Did you really think I wouldn't accept you?' I say and he bites his lip. 'I didn't think you would know. I didn't.' he says and I frown. 'Really?' I ask and he nods. 'But why didn't you just tell me? I would have understood, even if I didn't know. You know that.' I say and he nods.
'I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't want to take the risk.' He says and I nod. We sit in silence and stare into the yard. I softly put my hand on top of his. After a few seconds, he takes it. And we just sit there.
