Chapter six
Almost Free
[ Miana on the side---> ]
Derik continued to aimlessly walk the Florida streets, the humidity surrounding him like a second layer of skin. Being miles away from Montana Derik doubted the human would get very far if she ever managed to escape from him. Which is why he chose a location far away from where she lived and somewhere she would not recognize.
Since he shadow traced all the way to the lower part of Florida there was no possible trail that any other immortal could follow. Of course if he made it impossible for the angel to find him it would be no fun, so he left a faint trail behind. But not being a fool he ended his trail far from where he was and ended the trail half way into Georgia. In some small town named... "Macon" or something like that.
As he walked onto the crowded dock full of humans and carnival attractions he smiled at himself feeling proud of all his two steps ahead planning. After all, the angel was the first actual immortal Derik had encountered since the war had begun. And Derik was not going to make any mistakes or slip up. He had to...
He trained for this day all his life, as had all the other demon warrior before him and all the future demon warriors of the future generations. It was their way or life, their means of survival. Blood and carnage the thing they've known and learned since birth. Derik knew the world was not a fair or forgiving world and it never had been to him. And seeing how humans can smiles and laugh in the world that was full of war, death, and disease, it infuriated him. That being said Derik was NOT going to let anyone get in his way, not even a human. ESPECIALLY not this human.
Derik growled softly his purple eyes darkening to a shade of midnight purple he was going to see this through to the end and he was going to have fun along the way. With all that arranged and out of his mind. He turned around and walked toward the direction of his temporary "house". A sly smirk on his face that widened with each step that he took, his razor sharp, pearly white teeth gleaming at those who looked his way.
Even after he left she still hadn’t left. The scene from a few seconds ago replayed in her mind. Her cheeks turned scarlet realizing close she was to actually kissing him HIM!! A murdering, kidnapping devil!!
But even if she kept calling him that she knew that her body would continue to betray her and would give in if he tried anything like that on her. She just had to make sure she wasn’t in a situation that would allow him to make any advances..
She snorted to herself. As if she had any control over her current situation. Her eyes drifted to the door. Slowly getting up she approached the door, she ran her fingers through her hair. Feeling a bobby pin she inwardly grinned. Expertly inserting the twisted bobby pin and unlocking the door she wanted to just hug her brother for all the times he had locked her out of her room.
Slowly opening the door making sure to stay quiet and make as little noise as possible she crept out into the hall. Keeping her eyes open and listening in for any noises of his return she slowly crept toward the end of the hallway where sunlight was coming from, the whole time she kept herself hidden in the shadows.
Seeing the door to her freedom right in front of her she mentally shouted 'I am OUTTA HERE!' Smirking as she prepared to run for it after she passed through that door. So far it was easy to escape... but she can't help but think that it was TOO easy..
Biting her bottom lip she kicked her fears to the back of her mind leaping for the door and bolting out into the woods. While running she was caught off guard seeing PALM TRESS. There was no way she was in Montana anymore, she couldn't help but mentally think to herself. She looked over her shoulder relieved to find no one following her.
'Yes! I'm FREE!' She whopped throwing a fist into the air still pumping her legs putting more distance between her and the house she just escaped from.
After she ran past the last palm tree the dim rays of sunlight greeted her, the sudden light making her squint her eyes. She gasped her eyes widening as she came face to face with the ocean. Since she grew up in Montana she had never seeing the ocean or a beach other than in pictures and movies. And seeing it for herself for the first time... it was just well.. breathtaking.
Seeing the waves crashing toward the shore she gave a little squeal in delight before she jumped into the warm, crystal blue ocean water. She giggled at the feeling of the wet sand between her toes, a feeling she'd never felt before now.
'JEEZ! This is what I've been missing?!' She shook her head in disbelief. She continued to splash the water smiling as all the little droplets seemed to make a faint rainbow with the remainder of the sun’s light.
As soon as her guard was down strong well-muscled arms wrapped themselves around her. A warm timber voice whispered in her ear, “Well, well, well. Look at the little mouse that managed to get out of her trap.”
Scared she might get thrown into that bare room again or worse, she stiffened under his touch ignoring whatever strange tingles coursed though her skin from the feeling of his arms encasing her. He rubbed his chin against the hollow of her neck, his stubble rasping against her skin spiking the tingles she felt.
“Fuck!” he slammed his fist into one of the palm trees, making a huge indent from the force he used.
What the hell was he thinking? He had nearly kissed her. He furiously rubbed his mouth. He sighed signing it off as just sexual frustration or something.
He sniffed the air using his demon senses to try and calm himself down. He froze catching a whiff of mountain flowers and herbs, the HUMAN... he snarled softly as the scent of his prey soon filled his nostrils.
Running out he followed her scent, in a desperate attempt to reach her he began to half shadow trace running towards her. As he came closer to the shore line he slipped completely into the shadow realm hiding from other's sight. As he looked towards the shoreline to where her scent had led him he was surprised at what he saw.
There she was, the petite, red haired human that seemed to have him crawling up a wall, the one that had, somehow managed to escape him, HIM of all people. And she was splashing in knee high water, a bright dazzling smile on her face, her soft melodic laughter reaching his ear making them twitch.
Continuing to watch her every smile and hear every sounds of laughter she made, he became entranced with her. Her back was relaxed her guard completely down. Seeing the entrancing smile on her face he found himself wrapping his arm around her. She stiffened; he smirked knowing she could also feel the strange shocks he felt.
“Well, well, well. Look at the little mouse that managed to get out of her trap.” He whispered right next to her ear.
She didn’t reply.
He rubbed his chin against her neck enjoying the reaction he received from the human. He could smell the shock racing through her.. along with the strange pungent aroma telling him she felt something ‘more’ than just fear.
Letting the shadows encase both of them he traced back to the room. Releasing his hold on her he let her fall onto the old mattress. A sly arrogant smirk found its way onto his face.
“Looks like someone needs to be taught a lesson.” His vibrant eyes glowed with excitement.
Creeping closer the blood drained from her face, feeling her heart begin to frantically beat in her chest she knew that if he didn’t kill her soon, then her frantic heartbeat sure would.
