“For entertainment news, Maris Racal has done it again! Five years after winning as the second big placer in PBB All In, Maris has truly outshined herself at her very first concert since stardom held last night at the Philippine Arena. Fans and stars from all over the world gathered at the said event proving the charm that started the Pinoy wave that has now spread around the globe. Dubbed as the most bankable actress and singer of her time, she has proven yet again why she deserves the love of her fans. Her tandem with Iñigo Pascual in the drama “All for You” has been topping the ratings in various countries since it started airing. Rumors has spread that ever since the start of their love team a year ago, both has been in a secret rel-“
“Why did you turn it off?!” My friend, Loisa, who was sitting beside me said. Over the years, Loisa has gained attention in the theatre world for her voice. With the guidance of Kuya Jacob, she said she finally found her true calling. But she was still the same Loisa I knew, frank and brave.
“They were sputtering nonsense. You’re eating again. ” I said nonchalantly. I took my phone and started browsing Twitter.
“I’m hungry besides you know my situation.” She said while still munching on a bag of chips.
“How’s Joshua? Does he know?”
I looked at her through the corner of my eyes, pretending to browse but my sole attention was on her now. Her head hang low, as if braving herself on what to say.
“I didn’t had the guts to talk to him personally or even on the phone so I texted him. He hasn’t replied yet. Regardless.. Whatever he says, I’m keeping this.”
I was looking at her now. Maybe the reason why we’re still close was because both of us were clinging on someone we might never really end up with. Me with him and her with Joshua. I never really understood her fascination on him. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a friend as well but he’s definitely an a**hole for continually stringing her.
“Hey, remember, you’re not alone. You have me. And I’m sure your baby will be very proud to have a very famous aunt like moi!” I held her hand and gave her the biggest smile I could muster.
“Conceited.. Hahahaha.. But thanks. I really appreciate your support.”
“Yahh! I was lightening up the mood and you’re dampening it again. Maybe I should just punch Joshua again on the face so he’ll straighten up!”
“Maris! “ Loisa shouted shell-shocked.
A year ago, after Joshua and Jane broke off their three year relationship, was the start of Loisa and Joshua’s “pseudo” liaison. They were ‘it’ when they were together but single when apart. But apparently, my dear friend forgot to inform me of this tiny tidbit on their relationship. So when I saw Joshua in an event with his arms around a different woman, all hell broke loose. I saw red. I walked up to him and punched him squarely on the face, not minding the press swarming around us. It was all over the news the next day. Loisa was frighteningly mad at me and didn’t talk to me for a month. Aside from that, I thought my career was going to be over. But surprisingly, I landed my very first acting stint as the lead in a drama which catapulted me to where I am now.
“I was just joking. I wouldn’t want you not talking to me again.” I said with much venom in my voice. “Loisa… he’s not the only guy out there. There are many coveting for your attention.”
“Hypocrite! Say that to yourself. It’s been five years, Maris.” She looked at me squarely on the face, angry but concerned. “If he wanted to come back, then he should have come back already. I understand that you love him but five years has passed. I’m sure he’s moved on already. He might already have a wife and a child. We’re young. Just think of him as a mistake and accept the fact that he’s not coming back anymore. “
I knew what she was saying was true. Hell! Everyone has told me the same thing. But the problem with moving on from him is that it would also mean as accepting the idea that what we had might be an illusion brought about by the program we were in. I knew Loisa was worried about me. I’ve become aloof and indifferent since he disappeared. I still do smile. I just don’t know anymore whether they were sincere.
My phone suddenly rang and saw that it was from Ate Kat.
“Maris..”
“Yes, Ate Kat.”
“How many tickets do you need for that game this Saturday?”
“Loisa, Kaya has a match this Saturday. Do you want to watch together with me?” She gave me a sour face before nodding and proceeded to eat her remaining food. “Two for me Ate. But, include your family. Last time Baby Dan was having fun watching the game.”
“He won’t be there Maris. “ I hear the dismay in her voice. I’ve been accustomed to it by now but what I love about Ate Kat, somehow she understood my need to hold on to him.
“It’s okay ate. I’ve learned to love the sport. Bye bye.” That thought lingered as I pressed the end button. In every concert or event I did, there would always be this empty reserved seat. Every time Kaya players went out on the soccer field, that one person I was dying to see never really came out. F*ck this stubborn heart of mine! I did try forgetting him. I honestly tried. But it seems that after PBB, my normal days need him to be there to be considered as normal. I miss him every day.
“Maris…” Loisa nudged me cutting off my reverie. There it is again, that concerned look. “We’re not forcing you to forget him... We’re just worried about you.. *sigh* Come on. Let’s end all these dramas for now. We wouldn’t want Ate Alex to wait.” And I just let her drag me out. Just like how I let myself be drag of whatever is happening around me.
