The school day had come to an end and I had finally got home. Rather late I must say since Abigail and her little clique thought it would be funny to lock me in the janitors closet. It took almost three hours before the janitor found me. He didn't even try to find out how this happened. It wasnt the first time it did.
I climbed the steps leading to my house in a rush. Seems its all I've been doing all day. Rushing. But for a good reason too. I was gonna get it from my mom. That I knew for sure. I quickly but quietly made my way through the front door, preparing myself to make a run for it but before I could, I met dark brown eyes and a lovely but slightly angry face.
" Explain". My mother Amelia demanded.
"I'm so sorry mom. I- I-I got held up at the library. Had to finish a school project. But I promise it won't happen again". I smiled for effect. She didn't seem convinced.
" Ok. Now explain that big stain on your hoodie ". She folded her hands and raised her perfectly shaped eyebrows.
I looked down at the spot and cringed. A mark left by Jake. He tripped me at the same time I was carrying a tray with my lunch. I fell face first into the tray and you can imagine the food ending up in my face but my drink got to my grey hoodie. He humilited me infront of the entire cafeteria. They all laughed and I was upset. Completely tired of his bullshit. So I made a risky move. I defended myself even though I already had an idea how it would turn out from past experiences. But when I get angry. I get ignorant. Reacting without thinking or understanding.
So I got up, marched to his table, took his own bottle of fruit punch and threw it in his face making sure that it got in his perfectly styled hair too. The room went deadly silent and I felt the smile tugging on my lips but it quickly died as I saw the look on Jake's face.
He got up from his seat with a purpose. One that had everything to do with me. He gripped my wrist painfully and I instantly tried to pull my hand from his bruising hold.
" Your gonna pay for that". He said with a psychotic glint in his eyes.
" Let me go. You started this". I shouted with fear but at the same time with anger.
" I dont give a fuck. Who do you think you are". I gasped at his vulgar langauge.
" Someone who doesn't have to take your bullshit". I defended. A weak come back. But I was never really good at defending myself with my words. He chuckled.
" You know what?. I think I should teach this bitch some manners. Chase get the bin". He said to the smirking Blond. The last of their trio. Chase got up and went to do just that.Without a second thought I started to pull my hand from his grasp and shouting at him because I already knew no one else was gonna help. But he had a strong grip. I was almost ready to cry.
" Let her go Jake". Noah suddenly cut in and to my suprise.
" What! Are you joking?. Look what she did to my hair". He pointed at his fruit punch soaked hair and glared at Noah. Noah rolled his eyes. His bad habit.
"Just leave it Jake. We have more important things to do than to waste it on this trash" he pointed at me "Who we already know belongs in a dump but you can do that another time". Ouch... that really stinged. After Jake met Noah's eyes he reluctantly pushed me away.
" Your lucky". He said and even though I tried not to make it seem so, I was relieved. I quickly rushed out of the cafeteria to the bathroom where I tried to clean the stain but couldn't.
" Elle. I asked you a question". My mom snapped her fingers in my face.
" Sorry Mom. Uh..... I tripped and fell when I was carrying my lunch today. I'm really sorry mom". She narrowed her eyes as if trying to see through my lies. But then sighed.
" Go wash up. Dinner will be ready in five minutes". I smiled and walked passed her to get to the stairs.
"And Elle. I hope one day you'll trust me enough to tell me what really happens at school".
I didn't know what to say because I didn't want to lie again. So I just nodded and went up to my room.
It's not that I don't trust her. I just don't trust what she would do. Knowing my mom if she found out what Jake tried to do today, she'd probably get locked up by the time she was done with him. But I didn't want that and there's also the fact that I'm embarassed to admit that I get bullied. At 17. It would be understandable if I was still a freshman because.... that happens alot. You know the bigger kids picking on the smaller ones. But I'm almost an adult now. I shouldn't be going through this. Atleast I try to fight though. I'm not as weak as they think. But it still wouldn't stop Noah. He'd just make things even harder for me.
I found myself in my shower sighing as the warm water hit my skin. I stayed there a little longer than necessary singing big girls dont cry by fergie. Sometimes it was nice being alone to enjoy my own company.
Soon I was out the shower fully dressed, heading to the dinning room to have dinner with my dad Jay, my mom and my little sister Amy.
" That was more than five minutes elle". Amy said annoyed.
" Well Obviously" I unconsciously rolled my eyes Then bent to leave a kiss on my dads cheek " Hey Dad". " Hey Princess". He smiled.
" You mean Brat". My 8 year old sister said to our dad. " Ok Shrek". I replied. She gasped offended and ready to complain about why she looks nothing like shrek.
" You too be quiet. Its time to say grace". My mom said and we all held hands. My father said a short prayer then we all ate
" hmmm... this is good Amelia". My dad complemented mom.
"Obviously". My mom said in a 'duh' tone. My dad just shoke his head while me and amy giggled.
"So girls how was school". I tensed. My food becoming harder to swallow. Did mom say something?.
"It was good dad. We did painting today". Amy smiled joyfully. "And what did you paint". He returned her smiled.
"A garden. My teacher said I did a great job".Yeah right
Dad chuckled " Oh, I can imagine". He said as he ruffled her curly hair.
"What about you Elle?" . Dad asked with a rather odd innocent smile.
"It was fine. Other than the fact that I fell today. It was good". It wasn't a lie because I actually did fell. Twice.
Amy giggled. Reminding me of Abigail. "How did that happen".
"Wasn't paying much attention to my feet and tripped over someones bag in the cafeteria". Amy now laughed.
" Serves your right. Thats what you get for calling me shrek". I rolled my eyes again " It was before I called you that". Her laugh almost pulled a smile to my lips. I'm that person that always starts laughing when I hear someone laughing. Even when I dont know what the joke is. Infact I used to be the girl who was always laughing or smiling. Not anymore. The smile that almost came vanished.
"Amy settle down. And Elle you should be more careful". I grimaced. " I know dad. I'll try". I joked. And he smiled. Mom who had had her eyes on me the entire time looked away. My heart tugged but I want to fight my own battles. It would only make me stronger.
We finished dinner and I was in my bed about to go to sleep when amy stopped me.
" Elle". Amy came into my view with a small pout and her hands clasped together as she made her way into my room. " Yeah sis".
" You tripped right. Someone didn't push you?". She asked. And once again my heart tugged. "Yes Amy. No one pushed me". It was true enough. Jake didn't push me. He tripped me. " You sure". I smiled.
"Yes I'm sure".
"Ok goodnight sis. I need my beauty sleep". She said as she ran off to her own bedroom leaving my room door open.
I closed it. Then got back into my bed pulling my blanket up until it reached under my chin. I started to think. I didn't like lieing to them. It wasn't me. But its what I had to do to keep them from worrying.
I just wish things were different for me.
I fell a sleep dreaming of just that. For some reason though a certain light brown eyed boy evaded my dreams but this time he wasn't my enemy but my savior.
