It was the first day of summer, and my family and I were packing our bags to finally leave to Mattapoisett. Mattapoisett was my absolute favorite vacation spot since as long as I could remember. Sadly, I lived in a town called Luniere, located in Pennsylvania. It was a nice town, but it could get extremely boring at times, especially with all of the elders living in the neighborhoods. I grab the last shirt folded on my bed and place it in my average sized, over-packed suitcase. Smiling, I zip it closed and walk over to my younger brother's room nextdoor, checking to see if he was ready. "Collin, is everything packed?" I ask him as he picks up deodorant from his night stand.

"Yeah I think I have everything Carlie." He replies, giving me a nod and closes his bag, hoisting it off the bed. All of us were staying at the beach house for the whole summer. I was overly excited to see my friends again, especially Paige and Josefina. We've been friends since birth, considering the fact that our mothers were best friends and had us all in the same month, August. I skipped back into my bedroom, rolling the suitcase across the floor and down the stairs. As I walked into the kitchen, my parents were making scrambled eggs and smoothies while my other brother, Pat, was sitting at the table scrolling through his phone. I pull out a chair and sit down, pulling out my own phone and opening up YouTube. "Pat, how long does it take to get to Mattapoisett again?" I question, clicking on a Marcus Butler video.

"About 8 hours." He yawns, clearly more infatuated with his phone than to having a conversation with me. It's not like I cared, though, I had Marcus to listen to. Around 5 minutes later, my parents finished the food, laying out plates and utensils on the table.

"Collin come down to eat!" My mom called, before sitting down next to me while my dad sat across the table. Collin joined us a minute later, grabbing a seat next to Pat. I reached out for the eggs, scooping up a good two spoonfuls of the scrambled deliciousness. My family had a normal conversation, everyone telling about how excited they were to get there. We've been counting down the days by the time it was Spring, so 3 months to be exact. Yesterday I finished high school, my 18 year old self more than glad to be away from that hell hole, and looking forward to the future, as an adult. After we all finished and placed the dishes into the washer, I placed my phone into my jean shorts, pulling my dirty blonde hair into a ponytail and securing it with a hair tie.

"Alright, let's get the bags into the car." My father clapped his hands. I smiled and jogged to my suitcase, quickly rolling it into the garage and handed it to my dad, where he placed it into the car trunk. I grabbed my light brown toms that were lined up against the wall and slipped them on, sliding into one of the backseats of the Ford. Collin and Pat sat in the middle row, while my parents sat in the front, my dad driving. The car was all set, so we pulled out of the driveway and I was ecstatic to say that we were finally heading to the best place in the world, Mattapoisett.

I rolled down the window as we passed the sign that said "Welcome to Mattapoisett", and breathed in the smell of the damp salty beach. The car drove down the gravelly road, and into the beach house's driveway. I shrieked and clapped my hands, motioning everyone to get out as quickly as they could. They laughed and got out, followed by me running to the front door, jiggling the key into the slot, turning the knob, and at last stepping foot into the the home.

It was just as I remembered, the creme walls decorated with family and friend pictures as well as shelves with candles and flowers. The sun gleamed into the glass wall, iluminating the family room and its vibrant blue and matte black furniture. I turned right into the kitchen and admired its beach-like decorations. Sea shells being the centerpiece of our 10 seater table.

I turn around and cross the hallway, onto the steps leading upstairs. I see my bedroom door and sprint to it, opening it quickly and admiring my white walls with shells hanging from the top at every corner. My bed was laid out in the middle, its blue and green aztec designed bedspread covering the white sheets underneath. I had a closet which only contained a couple pairs of swimwear, tank tops, t shirts, shorts, and flip flops. My blue nightstand was seated right next to my bed, a pot of fake flowers and and a ring holder on top. The wall to the right of the bed had two, giant windows, accompanied by long white curtains. I fell onto my bed, the soft duvet caressing my cheek as I grinned happily.

I thought about Mattapoisett. The private beach right in our backyard, the mile walk to the lighthouse that was completely worth going to, the bike ride to the "town" that wasn't considered a town because of the 4 shops it held, the bridge where my friends and I always went jumping off of. There were so many things to do here, one of the biggest reasons I love it. It was also secluded, which meant everyone knew everyone.

Deciding it was time to climb off of my bed after a good 15 minutes, I skip downstairs and outside onto the porch, leaning my arms onto the railing. I take in a breath and watch the ocean waves crash onto the sand, listening to the relaxing sound that I missed so much. The day was gorgeous, the blue sky descending into a sunset that looked like a painting. It was around 8 pm, the weather being a nice 76 degrees. I just stood there, staring at the waters that I've always adored.

"Isn't it just beautiful?" I hear my mom ask quietly and she walks up next to me and copies my stance. I nod, placing my head onto her shoulder. It was the last summer I had before I left to college, and I wanted to enjoy it to the maximum.

"Can I head down to the public beach in town tomorrow? I really want to meet up with the girls." I smile, thinking about my best friends and how I would see them soon.

"Of course, honey." My mother says before giving me a quick kiss on the cheek. "But for now we need help unpacking and placing everything where it needs to be." I take one glance back at the ocean and head inside, cutting through the family room and out the front door where my father was getting all items out of the car trunk with the help of both of my brothers. I spot my suitcase and latch my hand onto it, rolling it into the home and carrying it up the stairs and into my room. I lay it on the floor right as my phone vibrates in my butt pocket.

Picking up, I hear Paige's voice flood through the line. "Carlie we need to meet up pronto because we have so many things to catch up on and," she took in a breath, "I met a really cute guy and I've already told Josefina, but oh my goodness gracious he is beautiful." I just laugh as she continues. "Anyways, all of us should go to dinner out to Oxford tomorrow night."

"I am in need of those lobster rolls, so yes, it's a must." I reply, saying goodbye afterwards and hang up, returning my attention to unpacking. An hour later I finished, my closet organized and full. I pick a pair of fluffly pink shorts, a baggy grey t shirt, and my favorite slippers, exchanging them for the clothes I had on. I head downstairs and click on the tv in the family room, settling for a rerun of Friends and sitting down onto the black couch.

5 episodes later, it was 11. My eyes were heavy as I got up and turned off the tv, trudging upstairs and pulling off my slippers before being embraced by the warmth of my bed. As I start to fall asleep, I think about tomorrow and how great of a day it was going to be. Hopefully.
