CHAPTER THREE

                                             Maroonsin.

I let out a breathy sigh, my heart racing in my chest. I had kissed her. I know it was on the cheek, but man, I kissed her! I want to jump in the air and shout for God-freaking-joy. I couldn’t wipe the grin from my face. I had dated plenty of girls, girls who I hadn’t really been interested in, ‘cause that’s what everyone wanted and expected me to do. I was tired of doing what others wanted me to do. I wanted to do what I wanted to do! And Sony was what I wanted. As sappy and unmanly as it sounds, no girl as ever made me feel that way. Sony was . . . different, and I loved it.

The end of hour bell wrong and students poured into the hall for their ten minute passing period. I headed to the hall where my locker was, knowing the guys would pick up my stuff.

“Hey, bro!” someone called from behind me. I felt a heavy thud against my body that didn’t even make me shift. Working out and hour a day did that to you. I grinned at Micklish attempted to get me in a headlock. I shoved him off, laughing, my grin still plastered to my face. He wrapped an arm around my neck in a brotherly manner, making me role my eyes.

“Hey, Maroon, heard you asked the ghost girl out,” said Laufkin said, coming up on my other side. Jorlon made noises from behind me, intending to sound creepy. I shook my head and rolled my eyes again.

“She is a ‘ghost girl’” I retorted, shrugging of Micklish’s arm to open my locker. Laufkin handed me my bag, “Thanks bro.”

“What do you even see in that chick? She never talks, like, ever, and she is weird looking,” Micklish said, shuddering.

“Hey, shut it, Milkfish,” I nearly snarled. He gave me the shank tooth. “She’s different, okay? I like her.”

“Yeah, different all right,” Laufkin said, wiggling his fingers and making ghost sounds. I sighed.

“I am taking her on date tomorrow night, and that’s that, all right? Let’s just drop it okay?” I offered. They shrugged.

“Whatever you say man . . .” Jorlon said.

I slapped my locker shut and starting striding towards my next class.
