Chapter 5: Swords Collide

The man in blue drew his katana and dashed towards (Y/N) and slicing vertically downwards, But (Y/N) was only quick enough to draw part of his rapier out, exposing only a few inches. He held the sheath in one hand and the handle on the other, putting him into a defensive stance and causing their swords to collide, "Impressive..." the man in blue spoke, "Yet I was only holding back" (Y/N) struggled to keep up with the man's strength, even though he said he was holding back.

The man in blue kicked (Y/N) in the abdomen, causing him to go flying straight through the doors and rolling into the open field on the streets. (Y/N) struggled to get back on his feet as he used his rapier as a support while getting up.

The man in blue squinted his eyes and clicked his tongue at the sight of (Y/N) being so pathetic. "Cut it out Vergil, That's enough already!" Nero spoke, "Can't you see he's hurt!?" The man in blue glared at Nero with eyes filled with an irked look on his face, " If the boy wishes to work with us, then he must prove himself that he is worthy and capable of withstanding my attacks, thus if you interfere our altercation, then I will have no choice but deny his application here at Devil May Cry".

Nero and The Man in Blue's conversation was interrupted by the sound of (Y/N)'s voice, "If that is what you seek..." Nero and the Man in blue looked at (Y/N), who said, "Then I shall gladly accept your challenge!" (Y/N) was able to fully draw his rapier out and aimed at the man in blue in readiness and determination.

The man in blue smirked at (Y/N), seeing his ego immediately rise through the roof, the man in blue said, "So be it then..." (Y/N) lunged at his opponent with great speed and thrusted his rapier at the man and continued thrusting trillions of times, the man in blue ever so confidently, was able to repel all of (Y/N)'s attacks by parrying every single one and gave (Y/N) a kick in the abdomen, which (again) caused (Y/N) to go flying across the streets once more.

(Y/N) recovered his balance and re-focused on his stance, he looked at Devil May Cry's entrance, only to find the man in blue walking towards (Y/N) with a poker look on his face, (Y/N) waited patiently as he waited for the man in blue to walk closer. But to (Y/N) surprise, multiple swords materialized out of nowhere, surrounding the man in blue whilst being aimed at (Y/N).

The man in blue was dangerously close to (Y/N)'s range, which left him no choice but to defend once more.

Slowly but surely, (Y/N) was able to block some of the attacks, but some managed to stab (Y/N), causing unbearable and painful wounds.

It got to a point where it was too much for (Y/N) to handle. And so there he was, sitting on the ground desperately trying to cling on to life as he tried to deflect his opponent's materialized swords. The man in blue was somewhat 'bored' at his opponent. And with one swing, he simply managed to disarm his opponent's weapon, he pointed his Katana to his opponent who was on the ground, "Any last words?" (Y/N) just simply lowered his head as tears stared to flow down his cheeks, "N-No...I-I do not " (Y/N) replied with a shaky tone in his voice,"Such a shame, you would have been an asset to our business..." and with that, The man in blue slowly raised his sword, preparing to strike down at his opponent and watched as (Y/N)'s tears drip from his cheeks.

When suddenly Nero appeared in front of The man in blue with their swords collide, "I SAID THAT'S ENOUGH VERGIL!" Nero yelled, "I don't care what you think, (Y/N) is here to stay and that's final!" Vergil squinted his eye and began to fill Nero with questions, "Nero, Why are you doing this?" Nero was somewhat pissed at Virgil's question,"What do you mean 'why am I doing this'? He's hurt and I can't stand seeing him like this," The man in blue started to ask Nero even More questions, "Second, Why are you protecting him?".

"Because he can't take it anymore, sure he's capable of defeating lesser demons, but that doesn't mean he can kill a descendant of sparda!" The Man In Blue was somewhat impressed at Nero's answers, but decided to ask one final question...

"Lastly Nero, What are your thoughts on this boy"

"He's my friend, my ally, a person who I trust, a person who I care about, I can't just stand by and watch him get hurt, and if want to keep going, You're gonna have to go through me first!" The man in blue was pleased with Nero's answers.

The man in blue suddenly sheathed his blade for some reason and said,"Congratulations (Y/N), Nero passed the test, so you are now an official employee here at Devil May Cry" (Y/N) got up and stood beside Nero dumbfounded and asked the man in blue in confusion,"Wait I thought I failed the test and Why is Nero a part of it?" The Man in blue sighed, " Those who breaks the rules are scum, but those who abandons his friends are the scum of the earth" The man in blue quoted,

" Nero was the key all along, if he hadn't stepped in to protect you, then you would have failed" The man in blue spun on his heel and walked back to Devil May Cry

"W-Wait!" (Y/N) called out,"I never really got your name, what do I call you?" The man in blue stopped and answered, "Vergil, my name is Vergil Sparda" Vergil spoke with out making eye contact.

(Y/N) smiled and was thankful for Vergil's kindness. But Vergil Looked over his shoulder and said,"Oh and (Y/N) one more thing..."

"Y-Yes?"

"Welcome to Devil May Cry"

OK so for those that have no idea what happened just now, basically Vergil faught with (Y/N) as a test if he was qualified or not, but in secret, he was actually testing Nero if whether or not he would save his friend. And I know Nero and the reader haven't had much interaction lately, but don't worry, its all part of my plan ;).

Also, I'm starting to dislike the fact that this is an X reader kind of thing.I mean don't get me wrong. I do enjoy writing boyxboy, It's just that i want to ask you guys if its alright to give (Y/N) a proper name,personality,how he looks like,etc.
