twenty-first of july

"Henna?" I heard Ashton shout from the kitchen one morning.

I groan, looking down at the black covers of my bed, proceeding to fling them down to the floor.

I rub circles into my eyes with my knuckles, wiping away the eye crust that had formed during my slumber.

I slid myself out of the queen bed and let my bare feet make contact with the crisp hardwood floor.

I turned the corner, searching for Ashton. He was no where to be seen.

"Ashton." I groaned. "It's too early for this."

"Darling, I'm right here, when you gonna realize?" I heard him laugh from behind me.

I swung around, nose to nose with a beaming Ashton. "You fucker." I said, giving him a playful shove.

He giggled his little Australian giggle, and let his arms wrap around my waist.

It was always so comforting when he did that. It was almost like I had my own personal security blanket. He would always do it too. In the mornings while we were making breakfast and he didnt want to flip the pancakes because he knew he would end up flailing them across the room somehow, so I would step up to the frying pan and begin to flip them, and he'd then come up behind me and wrap his monkey arms around me, letting his chin rest comfortably on my shoulder.

"Hey," I said, turning around.

He released him arms for a moment, then placed his hands on my waist again once I was facing him.

I stepped forward, letting my small arms wrap around him instead, letting my cheek settle into his chest.

"Ashton?" I said softly.

"Yeah princess?" He asked, planting a kiss on the top of my head.

"I love you." I let the words slip smoothly out of my mouth, almost like a waterfall. I had never actually said I love you to him before. And It felt amazing to have finally let it out.

He let out a sigh, "I love you too." And I could tell It was something he had waited a long time to let out of his system as well.
