My head peaked around the corner that stood between me, and the rest of the army. Bree crouched behind me as I explained the plan.

1) Sneak around the army
2) Find Melania
3) Send her to warn the others, the ones that the army were going to kill
4) Get back in time for the army to set off, so that nobody notices

She looked at me frightened, her fingers twitching, and her eyes moving constantly.

"What if we get caught?" She whispered, clenching her jaw.

I looked back and saw how vulnerable she really was; physically and mentally. I knelt beside her, and ran my thumb down the side of her face, in a comforting manner, trying to get her to calm down.

"We won't."

How wrong I was.

***

Keeping my head down, but my senses alert, I snuck round the chaos that was our army, and down an alleyway that lead to the streets.

I had left Bree in the little hole in the building that we had claimed as our own, because I didn't want to risk it, knowing that Melania was human.

Hands grabbed mine, and held them above my head. I struggled, and kicking them where the sun doesn't shine, escaped his grip.
A hand covered my mouth, and held me until I became quiet.

"Shhhhhhh"

It was Riley.

So much for not getting caught.

***

I tried to get away without having to talk to him, but it didn't work.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"That's none of your concern."

He grabbed my shoulder gently as I tried to walk away, moving it so that he now held hands with me.

"What are you doing?!" I hissed, trying to get my hand from his.

"I love you," he whispered, like it made him vulnerable, and tried to get closer.

Out of instinct, I somehow managed to release my hand, and punched him in the face.

His head flung to the side, as cracks appeared all the way up his neck, and his hand released mine, no longer trapping me. He looked hurt, which almost made me feel guilty, but I didn't dwell on it.

"No, you don't."

He looked confused, so I made it simpler for him.

"You don't even know me."

But he shook his head, and looked at me in disbelief.
"Yes I do. You're the most amazing woman I've ever met, with so much self-control, and a true motherly nature."

He grasped my waist, as the cracks began to heal, and pulled me closer to him.

"Please don't deny this bond between us."

I didn't deny it, I felt like he was the one.

Though personally, I preferred to get to know people before I date them, there was this feeling that I had when I was around him.

It was like my undead heart had began to beat again, it was like I could feel warmth, eventhough I knew that both of those were impossible for a vampire.

"I don't." My voice wavering.

He lent down for a kiss, and as our lips touched, I swear there was a spark, as fireworks set off inside of me.

As much as I enjoyed this moment, being so close to him, I knew that I needed to go, before it was too late.

I pulled away, taking unnecessary breaths, and looked to the darkness beside us.

"Go." He sighed, caressing my cheek. "But, please don't be long."
