All cars owned here had blacked out windows so that vampires could travel during the day plus the garage was a large storage place attached to the manor itself so that vampires could travel freely between the two buildings. I got into Luc’s range rover, I disliked the leather interior and pretty much everything about it but I couldn’t drive so I had to put up with his disgusting four by four. The engine growled as Luc put his foot on the ignition, he smiled at me with a devilish grin which made my skin crawl. He revved the engine as if the car was a cat getting ready to pounce, I sank back a little into my seat waiting for him to speed through the garage and nearly get us killed. He yelled, “Yeehaw!” and stamped down onto the ignition sending the still car into a speeding frenzy as it dashed and flew across the rough floor of the car park. My body was slammed against the very back of the chair, my hands grasping onto the handle above my head practically using it as a lifeline. Luc eyes changed from their usual honey colour to their terrifying black and red colour. Each vampire had different “vampire” eyes, Luc’s went red and black whereas his mother’s changed into a complete crystal white, no iris was visible when that happened. My eyes had changed differently to any vampires I had seen, my eyes had one from before rebirth and the other had turned into a light violet however my “vampire” eyes were merely red irises with white background (nothing spectacular). From what I had read and seen whilst living at the manor, their eyes changed when they had extreme emotion such as: rage, passion and hunger. Hunger was the one emotion I hated more than anything, the need to feed off of those who are weaker than us and unlike twilight it was human blood or nothing because animal blood was deadly to us.
Luc snarled and laughed as we whizzed around bends, motorways and country roads. I looked out of the window to distract myself from whatever speed Luc was going, dissimilar to when I was human I could now focus on everything. The tiny details that zoomed past me like the decay of the flowers as they slowly lost their beauty and the trees that showered its leaves in large bundles, they flew and glided down to the frost covered floor. Smell was a sense I had adored since my rebirth so I lowered the window to smell the fresh breeze on this (almost) winter morning, I whipped my face away from the window in disgust. The smell was both vile but tempting, both hideous and alluring. Luc snapped his head over to me, his face showing that of pure joy. He jammed on the brakes and motioned for me to go look for the origin of the smell, I sighed and obeyed him. I slammed the door as loudly as I could, hoping to scare whatever was nearby, I only hoped. It didn’t take me long to find the source, a deer had obviously been hit and tried to run but instead laid there bleeding to death. The deer saw and tried to escape me by flailing but caused itself more pain in the process, it moaned and yelped in pain. I felt awful leaving it there so I walked around to its head placed my hands delicately around its neck, twisted them. With a loud crack the deer stopped moving. I stroked its short soft fur for a moment, it reminded me of Alec and helpless he was compared to me. Alec had always been protective over me but now our places had switched but I couldn’t tell if I was protecting him or just playing with my food. I left the deer where it was, tears started to trail my face. The deer was so helpless, so fragile I couldn’t help but see myself as a murderer. I was a vicious killer. I got back into the car, tears streaming my face. I didn’t say a word to Luc but he knew what I wanted him to do. He just continued to drive. I wiped the tears from my face smearing eyeliner and mascara everywhere. But I could only see the helpless deer in my arms, dead. It brown fur covered in its own blood, a young male just dying there when it could have been so much more. It could have been free. I whimpered a little until my eyes drooped down.
“Doll, we’re here,” Luc said quietly, shaking my shoulder. I moved away from the window and un-buckled my seat belt. I muttered a “thanks” and went to leave. Luc caught my arm and said, “Doll, have my jacket because I think it looks a little suspicious if you have blood all over yourself,” he plopped the leather jacket onto my arm as I closed the door. He sighed as the door slammed, knowing I’d hear him. I walked away from the ugly beast of a car and strode over to the alley. Luc dropped me off here most days, the street was perfectly normal. It had small bungalows and terrace houses lining up next to one another with driveways and paved paths for people. It looked like the kind of place that I would’ve lived in if not for...you know. My destination wasn’t far, I had to go down the alley and go into the woods behind the terrace houses. The woods were quiet and cold, as if the spring had abandoned them to die but still it persisted to grow. The woods is just a public walkthrough for most people but for vampires it is a refuge. Several small bungalows were dotted about the scenery as safe houses for the night children. I’d helped a “friend” buy one as a home, I felt safer knowing he was amongst those loyal to the crown and safe from those who could use him against me or the crown. Also there was a certain protection barrier on the house, no vampires could enter without invitation which meant I could enter the house at will since I wasn’t a vampire (technically). I still liked to knock however. I knocked only twice.
“Just a minute,” yelled a voice. I smiled at the sound of the locks being un-done and the door opening. I shouted, “Boo!” and laughed hysterically as I saw Alec jump out of his skin. He wore a nerdy t-shirt and baggy jeans, his usual casual wear. His clothes screamed lazy but I loved it, he was worth more than any man at court and worth 10 of Lucian. He gave me a half-smile before leaning to kiss me, I went up on tiptoes to kiss him but instead of his lips pressing against mine, I heard laughter as he went back inside. My cheeks burned red. I stomped through the door, closing it behind me.
“Really?!” I laughed. He liked to play games with me, it made him feel more powerful (I think?). I couldn’t find him on his sofa or in the living room. I dumped the jacket at the door as well as my brothel creeper shoes. I crept across the lounge and into the kitchen, only a teapot and 2 cups were on the side. “Alec?” I shouted. No reply. I began to panic now, worrying.
“Alec this isn’t funny!” I called out. Music started coming from the bedroom, down the hall from the kitchen. Thankfully the place was small so I didn’t have to move much to get to the bedroom. I walked in to see the bed covered in rose petals and fairy lights with classical music playing. I ran my hand across the beige silk of the bed sheets. The lamps and 2 bedside tables had gone, leaving only the bed and armchair in the room. I heard a noise from the en-suite. I walked round the bed and over the white rug that lead up to the small bathroom. I tugged lightly at the door handle, opening it to see Alec in front of me holding chocolate in one hand and a blood bag in the other. “Surprise?” he said, giving me another half-smile. I took the stuff from his hand and threw them on the floor, hugging him tightly. His arms enveloped my waist as I pressed my face into the crook of his neck. “I’ve missed you,” I said muffled slightly by his body. “I’ve missed you too,” He sighed. He held me close to his chest, swaying with the music. I pulled my head out from neck and leant in to kiss him. “Uggh, will you to stop being gross?” An annoyed voice groaned from the doorway.
