I quickly brush away the tears and headed down the steps, my mother right on my heels. Judd was on the couch, still paralyzed. His face was red and sweat was pouring down his face. I knew if he could move he would probably run away. His eyes followed my every move as I grabbed his wrist. His vein right there, ready to be punctured. Once again, I sank my teeth into his flesh, putting even more venom into him. It took everything in my power not to suck what was left his blood. I closed my eyes and fought the urge. He couldn't, scream, he couldn't move, he couldn't even open his eyes.
Even though he couldn't react, I knew it burned. His blood literally in flames. I had heard stories of this transition. It wasn't an easy one. I looked up at him while letting the venom slip off of my fangs and into his vein. His skin got paler and his arms and legs began to get stronger. The sweating stopped and his skin became ice cold. I continued to allow the salty liquid flow through his veins before a very strong hand pushed my head away.
I glanced up at what had to be the most handsome man on planet earth. He looked back at me, with the darkest shade of green eyes I had ever seen, they almost looked black.
"So he'll control the earth element. Nice, I wonder if his daughter will control the same thing?" My mother asked.
"What do you mean will she control the same?" asked, looking up at her?
"Well you have to turn her too Essence. I'm not going to do it, this is your responsibility."
How could she possibly expect me to turn a five year old child into a vampire? I could never watch her little body paralyzed and her insides burning to pieces, or at least feeling that way. The very thought of her being in that condition broke my heart.
"Mom, do I have to? Can't she stay human? I mean, maybe we could find some of her other family. I don't want to-"
"No, we have no other family." Judd said sitting up. "My parents died and her mother left us after she was born."
"Judd-"
"What did you do to me?!" He looked down at his pale and muscular body. My parents had to strip him, in order for him to be cool and escape some of the heat. "What am I?"
I'm sure he already knew the answer to this question, but sometimes you need to hear it from someone else for reassurance. I sat down on the arm of the couch next to him.
"Um, listen. I'm Essence, I'm a vampire." His eyes closed at the mention of the word. "I-I kind of got thirsty, um for blood, so I bit you."
This wasn't easy to explain, and I didn't know how he would respond. Thankfully, he just sighed and shook his head. He suddenly shot up from the couch and began to look around the living room. My mom covered my eyes.
"Where is Honey?!" My mother pushed him back on the couch with hardly any force. "Did you hurt her?!"
"Judd. Listen, you need to calm down before you see her. Promise me you won't try to attack her." My mother said.
"Why would I attack her?! Let me see my baby!" My mom looked up at me and nodded her head. I walked upstairs to my room and unlocked the door with the key from my pocket. She was sitting on my bed pouting in her camouflage outfit that looked just like her dad's. When she saw me, she turned her head away.
"I hate you." I slowly walked towards my bed and sat down next to her. She scooted away, and I didn't even bother trying to get closer.
"I know you do Honey. I'm sorry about locking you in here. I panicked." She still wouldn't look at me. "Okay. Well, I have good news. Your daddy is feeling better. Do you want to see him?" She nodded quickly and and ran for the door.
Everything after that happened so fast, literally. I chased Honey down the steps, but her father met her half way. His fangs were bared and his eyes literally black as coal. I could recognize that face anywhere. I've seen my friends and family act that way. They act that way if they weren't born a vampire and had to be changed. I knew he smelled her sweet blood, and I knew he was thirsty. He couldn't resist. She is the only human in the house.
It only took me half of a second to jump in front of him, and push him down the steps. My dad jumped over our heads. And held him down. Judd struggled against his grip and fought and fought, but my dad was too strong.
"Essence! Get her out of here! Take her to Luis." I quickly grabbed Honey up into my arms and ran past my our two dads who were fighting on the ground. I continued to run outside until I got to our cousin Louis' house. I didn't even bother to knock.
"Essence? What's wrong?" His wife Gianna asked me. I looked down at the little child in my arms. She was shaking and her eyes were bloodshot from so much crying. She was shivering so hard. I handed her over to Gianna, who immediately began to rock her. She's been through so much today, and it's all my fault. I didn't think that he would have a daughter, let alone one that hunts with him. It definitely took me by surprise. Gianna didn't even ask for a good explanation, she just sat on the couch and rocked her.
Once we were sure she was asleep, she took her upstairs and put her into the bed in the guest room. Gianna came back down the stairs and sat next to me. She smoothed down my hair and pulled me closer like she used to when I was small.
"You lost control huh? I understand. Moving to a new place is always hard. You experience new smells, new people, new vampires. It's all crazy." I nodded yes. Gianna's eyes are grey. Just like my sister Tameron's. They could read minds and see the future. They are basically psychic.
"It was crazy. I didn't really have control of my body, it knew what it wanted. I had no clue that he had a child wih him. I don't know what to do. She wants to be with her dad and he just wants her blood. He would suck her dry." I felt a special attachment to this girl. She had a special place in my heart and I didn't want to watch her being hurt.
"Well, you go on home sweetie. I'll keep you informed of the child. Try and rest a little." She kissed my forehead and I pushed myself off of her couch.
"Thanks Gianna. It means a lot." I shut the door behind me and began to run home. I'm so tired and my bed is just waiting for me. Vampires can't sleep? A myth. We don't sleep much, two hours at the most, but we do sleep.
When I did get home, every light was off. I slowly eased my way into the house and locked the door after me. After grabbing a snack (yes, vampires can eat real food. We just stay thirsty). It's been an emotional day and I'm a stress eater. Very very slowly, I trudged up the stairs, making sure not to wake anyone. When I opened my door, it took everything in my power not to scream. Judd was knocked out on my bed. I sighed, shrugged my shoulders, and went back downstairs. After grabbing a blanket, I laid down on the couch and fell into a much needed deep sleep.
