Alexis still had her arms crossed, scowling at me and then Andi which piqued my interest because Alexis should be kissing Andi's feet for getting her here in one piece.

"Can you believe she refused to go help my parents." Alexis wined.

Andi directed a hard stare at Alexis. She straightened and held her head higher from the force of the look.

"Tell me, Alexis, why didn't you go help your parents?" Andi said in a stern tone as she moved closer to Alexis.

"Well ... uh... the house and the grounds were crawling with zombies, there was no way I would've been able to do anything to help them."

"So what the f*** did you expect me to do?" Andi ground out, her face inches from Alexis's. Alexis flinched but held her ground, much can be said for her stubbornness.

"Ok, ladies lets just take a deep breath. It's been a trying few days for us all. But we need to come together not point fingers." I say holding my hands up, hoping the situation doesn't escalate.

Giving up on the staring contest, Andi turns to face me. She glanced briefly down at her Knobkerrie, her face now one of sorrow.

"After being stuck in the outbuilding yesterday. My mom devised a plan to get us off the property, only she didn't fill me in on the details." I knew there's more to the story that she's not saying but I don't push her she'll tell me when she's ready.

"So I'm here because I made a promise to my mom to get Alexis to safety and here she is." She waved a hand in Alexis's direction.

"She's your problem now. Good luck."

Before she could make a move I held my hand out to stop her. "Don't tell me you're leaving? We will be heading to the house in the Drakensburg, you should come."

She paused for a moment and smiled sadly at me.

"I'm sorry Jay. But on our way here my car gave out if I didn't have this," she looked down at her weapon again.

"We probably wouldn't be here. Anyway, after walking a couple miles by a stroke of luck Dean, a fellow Doctor at the hospital was driving by and stopped to help us out."

Alexis's piped up again, does this girl ever know when to give it a rest? "He's an asshole! He rushed me into his car and refused to go back for my bags."

"When did you even have the time to pack a bag?" I asked because I really wanted to know.

"Just because the world is going to shit, doesn't mean I have to look like shit. No offence." And there it is that signature smile she gives when she's being a proper bitch.

Andi just shakes her head and continues, "He's on his way to his parent's place to check on them. I told him that I would accompany him because my uncle lives nearby and I'd like to make sure he is okay."

A gruff voice from behind me startles us as Brady makes his appearance known. I completely forgot he was here.

"I really think you should reconsider, it will be dark soon. And I'm sure you know how bad it gets out there after dark."

Andi's eyebrows shoot up as she looks Brady up and down, then gives me a sly smile. My face scrunches up in confusion as she questions him, " And who might you be?"

Alexis rushes forward practically shoving me out the way, raising her hand in Brady's face.

"I'm Alexis, I'm so glad to see that we have a big, strong man to protect us."

I roll my eyes and exchange a look with Andi.

Brady stares at the manicured hand that is still being held out grabbing it and giving it a rough shake.
