She gestured furiously for me to come closer. As the tears streaked down her face I couldn't deny her that much. With her lips only a few inches from my ear, the weight of the world became so much heavier as tenaion built.
How much can a mute girl whisper? I instantly regreted thinking that.
The slow steady stream of tears slowly became a sob she was trying desperately to control. Fear rose within me, and then it happened.
"Ashton, I'm scared of the man in the woods," she whispered barely audible and for a second I thought I had imagined it.
Roxy's eyes widened and she turned and took off running in the other direction. I ran after her but froze when I heard a scream.
"Now you." That voice was the last thing I heard and the feeling of something being brought down on my head was the last sensation I felt before I was engulfed in complete darkness.
