For the rest of the day we don't do our chores. We don't read. I made us lunch. But we don't talk while we eat. We just focus on the food and our own thoughts. None of us got anything to say. We don't know what gonna happen.
After lunch, when we cleaning up I stop e'eryone from what they doing.
"I want y'all to listen to me. I want y'all to understand what I saying right now. We are a family no matter what anyone says. The six o' us, including Claire, where'er she is, will alway be a family. Do y'all understand? We gonna find anyway we can to be just that. Nothing gonna change that. I ain't gonna let it happen. Y'all understand?"
They all nod. Then we go into a big hug. It take a while 'fore we let go of each other. I wish we ne'er have to. Just like I wish I could lie next to Mack whene'er he have a bad dream, or help Megan and Claire stop arguing o'er dolls. "I ne'er wanna lose this, e'er."
Then we get back to cleaning the kitchen up. After e'erything is clean we go outside and just side on the porch. We sit silently and just stare at the horses running in the fields, and the birds flying from tree to tree. We hear the wind moving through the trees.
"I always working. I ne'er take a break to look at this view," Mack tell us. "I ne'er realized how beautiful this world could be. Is it gonna be this beautiful if we ain't here? Will the rest o' the world look this beautiful?"
"I believe so, Mack," Kate say. "I believe you can make anywhere you go just as beautiful in your own eyes. You just need to look at it with those eyes you are using now."
We continue to sit quietly. All thinking our own thoughts. Not moving, just thinking.
"Annie," Sam look up at me from my left side. "Do ya promise?"
"Promise what, Same?"
"Do ya promise to keep us together, cause I ain't ready to lose anyone not. Not e'en you Kate. I don't wanna lose ya either."
Kate begin to cry. She hasn't been here for long, but she is just as must as a sister to Sam and e'eryone else as me, Claire, and Megan are.
"I promise Mack."
