It been a few days since me and Mack talked in the barn. We havn't spoke 'bout it since, but he look at me as if he want me to say yes to his idea.
There two rooms we ain't allowed in. The attic, and Ma and Pa's bedroom. I ne'er thought 'bout going in either, 'cause I ne'er had a reason. But now I think 'bout the possibilities. I think 'bout what is happening and how it happening. I feel like there is a chance I have other people in this world then here in this house. Maybe, Kate is right, but if she ain't it gonna hurt her, me, and Mack. I try to keep my hope down, but it hard. What if my other family is royal, like the Princesses and Princes in my books. I want to know what is out there in this world.
I want to go up there. No, I need to go up there. If we do, we can find out if Kate is telling truth or not. And if she ain't we know we a true family. Either way, we learn the truth.
I don't know how, or when, to tell Mack. I gotta make sure no one 'round us, not e'en Kate. And I gotta say e'erything I thinking. But I gotta do it soon 'cause I need to know the truth.
It been a few days since I decided to do it. Me and Mack ain't ne'er alone. Kate always in the barn wit us. Claire, Megan, and Sam are always asking some question. And Ma and Pa are wit us when we ain't working or in the cellar. I feel like it ain't e'er gonna happen. We jus' gonna be stuck wit not knowing the truth. I losing hope. All my hope. I tried to keep my hopes down, but e'eryday that passed by I thought 'bout it all. E'erything I read in books. E'erything Kate tell us 'bout. All of it. I can't stop thinking 'bout it. But I havn't had a chance to tell Mack and it been days, week e'en. I need this. Mack need this. Kate too.
...
It been three weeks. Three whole weeks of thinking, gaining hope, and losing it soon after. It feel like running up and down hills. Ya run up and ya stand on top looking out, but then ya gotta run back down. Then the next hill comes in sight. Ya run up that one, and jus' ya luck, ya gotta run down once more. Ya can ne'er remain atop the hill 'cause ya gotta come down to go back home.
Mack always trying to pull me aside, and I try to pull him. But e'erytime we get interrupted by someone. I can see defeat spreading across his face more and more e'erytime.
It took awhile, but i figure out how we gonna talk 'bout this. Tonight. I gonna tell him tonight when e'eryone asleep. From there we will plan it out.
...
I took fore'er for e'eryone to fall asleep. I lay in my bed a little longer jus' to make sure e'eryone asleep.
I forgot to tell Mack to stay awake, so I gotta wake him up quietly. He a light sleep, so it's easy. I walked o'er to his bed and pushed his arm. "Mack," I whispered.
"Annie?" He isn't really awake much, but he will be soon.
"I wanna do it."
"Do what?"
"I wanna go up there."
"Annie, whatcha talking 'bout?"
I didn't wanna wake the others, so I dragged him o'er to the other side of the room.
"I wanna go in the attic," still whispering.
"Wait, what? Ya do," his volumed raised, so I shushed him while looking 'round the room to make sure no one woke.
"Yes, but we gotta plan it all. We cannot do this wit no plan."
"Okay, so what do ya think we gotta do?"
"Tomorrow night. When e'eryone asleep. I gonna go upstairs to make sure Ma and Pa sleeping too. Then, I gonna tell ya when ya can come upstairs."
"But what if Ma or Pa are upstairs?"
"Don't worry 'bout it. I can handle that."
"Are ya sure ya wanna do this? Ya don't have to."
"I could ask ya the same question, but we both know we got the same answer. Now let's plan e'ery step."
Planning for this took a few hours. But those few hours were worth it. E'erything is ready. We jus' need to do it. We agree we can't be in the attic longer than an hour. So tomorrow night gotta be quick and easy. No wasting time. Get what we need to know and get out. The only hard part, we don't know what we looking for.
When we finished talking, Mack went back to sleep, but I stayed up thinking. I feel like we should know what we looking for. We think he bring newspapers up there, so we gotta check for those. But other than that, we ain't got a clue what is up there. I guess we have to go in a little blind.
