(Note Skylar is 13 in this story and Della and Donald are around 12)

Skylar slowly stepped out of her small, musty apartment building, taking a deep breath of the crisp morning air. She'd always tried to get out of the cramped apartment any time she could, even if it simply meant sitting on the old, wooden doorstep.

Her mother hadn't really liked the idea of her running around alone when she wasn't with her or home but did she really think that would stop her? After all, she was raised by Goldie O'Gilt. She had even once taken money, bought a bus ticket, and went to an amusement park in St. Canard-which was a few towns over from her home in Duckburg-and was never found out.

"What should I do today?" Skylar lightly mused, biting into the granola bar she had brought out with her. She didn't want to just sit around, especially since it was so nice out. Why waste the day on movies & popcorn when she could be sliding down a 100ft water slide, or fending off ghosts from the underworld?

Goldie was still fast asleep upstairs in the small bedroom. She was probably out super late again, which was nothing new to Skylar. Some nights Goldie had stayed out so late, she hadn't returned until about 4 in the morning. Probably on some dumb adventure again, Skylar thought bitterly. She glanced over the edge of the tall apartment building, when the thought hit her. The park! She loved the park! Well, she loved the swings, anyways. But it was definitely better than being cooped up all day in the apartment. It was only about a 2-minute walk away, anyways.

"Perfect!" She thought aloud. She swiftly ran up the stairs and back into the building, searching for her apartment door, before quietly opening it as to not disturb her mother. She grabbed her bag and started walking back out. She stalked by her mom's room, said person still sound asleep. "Ugh. She was probably out drinking again or whatever she does when she's away here." She whispered to herself, half-heartedly angry.

She shook her head, as to try and get rid of those dark thoughts, and ran to the door "Alrighty! Here I go!" She inhaled deeply and started running to the park.

Once the park was in her view, she noticed there were two other kids, they looked to be around her age. Skylar felt ecstatic, speeding up to get there sooner. "Ohhh boy," she panted, hands on her knees. She'd finally arrived at the park. She looked up at the playset to see one of the kids, a girl looking curiously down at her.

"Ahoy, matey!" The girl shouted, swirling down the fireman pole. The girl roughly hit the ground and walked over to Skylar. "Me name be Della Duck! It be a pleasure to meet ye!" She said, violently shaking Skylar's hand.

Skylar smiled and played along, "And me names Skylar O'Gilt! Finest sailor in all o' Duckburg, and the pleasure be all mine!" She finally managed to pull her hand away from Della's death-like drip. Della's face went from happy to confused, "O'Gilt-O'Gilt---That name seems..so familiar to me?"

"That's odd," Skylar responded, tilting her head slightly. Della shook her head and jumped, "So you wanna be my pirate partner? My co-pilot? My new best friend?" She asked, beaming with joy. Skylar's smile grew wider, "Sure! Why not!" She answered before she knew it Della was pulling her up the playset. "Aye! We be settin' sail next sunrise, swaggalin sqauckin arrrggyarr."

"....."

Skylar burst out laughing. "What the everloving duck did you just say!?" she managed to blurt out almost choking on chuckles, deeply inhaling as her feathers turning a light pink.

Della giggled a bit too, "Wh-ha-haaattt? I ran out of pirate slang." she shrugged, Skylar still laughing her tail feathers off.

Della stared grumpily at her new friend when she remembered "Oh right! I want you to meet someone!" Della said to the still giggling blond. "Al-alright, who?" Skylar pulled herself together, glancing around. Della pointed down to a bench near the edge of the park. They both slid down a small yellow slide and approaching the bench where a young boy sat alone.
