"SO, THEY'RE LIKE, definitely in love, right?" Andi Mack leaned forward on the table in Buffy's kitchen, addressing the group of friends that were seated around her. It was weird not to have Cyrus with them, but they had agreed to keep their plan under wraps until they were absolutely certain that it would work.
"Definitely," Walker nodded, almost solemnly.
"But they're both too scared to make the first move?"
Amber took a sip of her iced coffee, "Yeah, it's tragic. It's all TJ ever talks about," her voice took on a low tone as she tried to imitate her brother, "'ugh, I like Cyrus but I don't know if he feels the same, I don't want to screw things up, what if he isn't even gay?' God, could he be denser?"
"Wait, he hasn't come out to Cyrus yet?" Buffy's eyes widened. "This sets things back."
Jonah piped in, "Majorly. But it's fine, we'll figure it out, and it'll all be-"
Walker grinned, cutting his boyfriend's sentence off, "Docious-magocious?"
"Shut up," he muttered, also smiling.
"Ugh," Andi pretended to gag, "You guys are so cute. I'm gonna barf."
"I wouldn't talk, all you do is hold Amber's hand, all day long. And when you aren't around her, you always talk about her. We get it, you're in love or whatever."
"Stop calling me out," Andi faked offense, hiding a begrudging smile. The group started bickering, their volume starting to crescendo.
"ENOUGH!" Buffy shouted, silencing the teens, who stared at her with shocked expressions. She spoke again, calmer. "We need to stay on track. Can anyone tell me why we're here?"
"So Cyrus and TJ can get over their mutual dumbass-ness and realize they're made for each other?"
"Exactly. So, how do we do this?"
The group fell back into silence again as they pondered the question.
"Hey, wait! I know Cyrus is looking for a summer job. Where does TJ work, again?" Andi spoke after a few moments, grinning at her idea.
"Uh, I'm pretty sure he works at an ice cream shop downtown. It's called the Cherry on Top or something. Cyrus should apply there!"
"Why not?" The brunette asked rhetorically, shrugging.
"That's actually not a bad idea," Walker added. "They would have more time to spend together."
"Perfect. Now, how do we get Cyrus to agree?"
A loud knock on the door once again disrupted Cyrus from his thoughts. Before the boy could even begin to get up in order to open the door, a group of overly-excited teens burst into his foyer, led of course by Buffy.
"Buffy," he started, "why do you knock if you aren't going to wait for me to answer?"
She ignored his questioning, instead prompting a dialogue of her own. "I have a proposition."
Somewhere in the back of the crowd, Andi was heard muttering a teasing, "ooh... using big words, are we?" This was met by snickering from Walker before he composed himself in fear of Buffy's pointed glare.
Cyrus made a show of looking annoyed, hiding the fact that he really was grateful for a distraction, and let his friends continue.
"I think I know where you can get a Summer job."
"I'm listening."
Cyrus hated AP Science with a burning passion.
The boy was curled up on the couch in his living room an hour later, struggling to focus on studying for final exams. His past conversation with Buffy was replaying in his mind, along with thoughts of someone else.
No matter how much Cyrus wanted to ignore his growing feelings for TJ, it was proving increasingly more difficult. (Perhaps the near-daily texts exchanged between the pair wasn't helpful, either, but Cyrus wouldn't exchange that for anything, even if it meant failing his science final.)
He was desperate for a distraction, and his blessing came in the form of his phone ringing loudly from the coffee table. He reached over to answer the call, and was met with a pleasant feeling when he read TJ's name on his screen.
"Hey, Teej! What's up?"
The boy's muffled voice came through, "Hey, can you meet me outside? I'm kind of -" he paused, "I'm kind of bored so I was wondering if you wanted to study or something."
"Sure, I'll be out in a minute."
Surely enough, as soon as Cyrus opened his door, TJ was there to greet him with a shy smile. He pocketed his phone and without another word started walking down the steps, motioning for Cyrus to follow.
"Wait, so where are we going anyway?"
The blonde smiled again, this time with a more-confident air. "It's a surprise, I promise you'll like it."
Cyrus tried not to focus on how fast his heart was beating as he followed Tj through his resting suburban neighborhood and farther downtown. The path they were taking was familiar, yet he hadn't walked it in a while.
Occasionally, the boy's hands would brush together, as if they were subconsciously begging to be intertwined. They made casual conversation as always, laughing about something a kid did at school, or whatever dumb thing Reed had said, until TJ stopped in his tracks.
"Close your eyes." Cyrus did as he directed, not sure why.
"TJ, I can't see."
He felt his friend's hand grab his own tightly, "Well then, I'll just guide you."
// tyrus is canon king. sorry for taking 20 years to update but i had to plan out the rest of this cause i realized that i was totally lost plot-wise. the finale had me screaming, and now ig i'm just glad i can basically go anywhere with the plot without being influenced by new episodes .
so yeah, after editing this i realized that the chapter is super scattered but we're gonna have to deal with it.
