it's been so long, i'm so sorry lmao

im walking to colby's house for the dinner we planned with his family.colby was an only child, which meant that the responsibility put on him to succeed was overbearing at times. his parents think i'm a nice kid, and colby says they always talk about me, and how happy they are that he finally has a good, stable friend, but they don't know that i'm... kinda more than a friend.
it's going to be tough for colby to tell his parents what we are, and what he is, but i believe that he'll know what to do. and i'll be there with him every step of the way.
when i arrive at his house, i see that he's already standing outside the door, waiting for me. all the unease that was settled in my throat dissipates when i'm met with colby's smile. he reaches for me and gives me a strong, bone-crunching hug; and i can tell he's extremely nervous for this.
"hey colby..." i say, rocking us back and forth.
colby is the one that pulls back first. "i am so terrified, i don't know how they'll react and that's scary, much scarier now than two days ago."
"how's about we get this over with then, huh?" i grab his hand and walk into the house, letting go of his bigger hand when i'm met with his parents in the living room to my right. his mom walks up to me first and greets me,"hi, sam! wow, it's so nice to finally, formally meet you." i go in for a handshake, but she pulls me into a hug and i chuckle in surprise, before patting her back and pulling back. "you can call me amy."
colby's dad walks up and gives me a firm handshake. he's a lot taller than me, though that isn't a hard feat. he detaches his hand from mine.
"my name is robert," he said. he gave me a small smile and a pat on the back.
"you guys can go hang out until dinner is ready, it's almost done, and once it is, i'll tell you guys."
we both thank her and go to colby's room. we sit across from each other criss-cross applesauce style and talked until colby's dad knocked on the door and told us dinner was ready.

"ma'am, amy, this food is delicious. i love it," i said, hesitant.
"thank you, sam." she smiled at me and she reminded me of my own mother.
colby sat next to me at the dinner table, with both of his parents in front of us. colby takes a deep breath and sighs turning to me. i can feel his nervous energy practically radiating off of me. i look over and notice he hasn't eaten any of his food. he opens his mouth and closes it, as if looking for something to say.
"mom, dad? i have to tell you something," he said, grabbing my hand from under the table and lifting it to rest on the table, in between the two of us and clear in his parent's sight. "i'm gay," he says, and pauses, looking at both of his parents for a reaction.
his mom and dad look at each other and smile, looking back at colby and i. "colby," his mom starts,"you know we love you no matter what. we one hundred percent accept this part of you."
"we had a feeling you and sam were more than what you said you were. i saw the way you two looked at each other. like the whole world was in the other's eyes." colby's dad said, tears forming in his eyes.
colby sniffed, standing up and walking to his mother and fathers side. they both stood up and engulfed him in a hug. i saw colby's cute smile through the arms of his mom and dad. his mom, amy, held her hand out to me.
we all hugged each other and pulled away, tears in all our eyes. i couldn't help but think that it was such a pure, genuine, human moment. i felt colby's relief. his happiness. his love.
///////
after the dinner colby and i were cuddling on his bed, my head on his chest and his strong arms wrapped around my body. i heard his heartbeat under my ear, his breath on the top of he head, his hands rubbing my back.
it was at that moment that i realized that colby's dad was right.
he is my whole world.
