Sophie watched as Aleisha's new partner moved his boxes front the front door step, to the room upstairs. She had been asked to help, but Aleisha had just dragged her off to sit on the sofa and paint each other's nails whilst he did the work. It hadn't surprised her, Aleisha was hardly one to go getting her nails grubby. She was blowing big pink bubbles out her mouth, right into Sophie's face. Sophie hated it, she knew Aleisha didn't do it on purpose but it stunk and blowing gum was a horrible habit. "How's ya boy?" Aleisha asked picking out a new colour to smother Sophie in. Sophie snapped out of her daze of watching the boxes move up and down the staircase. "He's a cocky arsehole, so he's probably very happy."
Aleisha laughed, her long fake nails accidentally digging into Sophie's palm. She leant closer to Sophie, her hair mixing in Sophie's sun-kissed brown locks. "Nah, he's still like the hottest guy." She licked her lips and laughed.
Sophie had lost any attraction to Zac a long time ago - the second time he hit her was the exact time she knew she no longer loved him. They had just moved here and Zac was forming a new gang amongst the young school drop outs. The first hit was on a different night - now Sophie's regular nights - Zac had been drunk and angry. The second time was when she packed up her bags and threatened to leave, he had hit her so hard her face bruised for weeks. But it had worked, and she had stayed, seeing no way out in the near future.
Also Sophie didn't think Zac was the hottest guy anymore... Thomas - in his own lanky, skinny way - was very good looking. Sophie's cheeks bursted into flames.
"Who's that boy you've been hangin' around with lately?" Aleisha asked, sticking her gum under the coffee table and fetching another stick.
Sophie scratched her face, hiding her panic. "Err, you mean Thomas?"
"Yea!" Aleisha shouted snapping her talon like fingers. "He friends with that Sean guy?"
Sophie shrugged, their parents knew each other but that did not make them friends immediate friends. Plus Sean was from another gang, Thomas shouldn't really be friends with him. "Yeah that's him." Sophie said blowing cold air across her newly decorated nails - red, the classic.
Aleisha nudged Sophie with her socked foot, wriggling her painted eyebrows. "And? He's kinda cute, ya gettin' some of that?"
Sophie glared at Aleisha trying to ignorw the stupid faces she was giving. It didn't last long, sophie bursting into fits of laughter. "He's nice - a good friend nothing more." She still remembered the feeling of his leg against hers as if it was yesterday, his face when their hands touched on the doorknob, that burning sensation under her skin. The way her heart had speeded up when he gave her the plant. She pushed the emotions down, bottling them up tightly.
Aleisha pouted, her dark lipstick haunting sophie of days when she used to wear make up to go on dates with Zac. That was a long time ago.

Aleisha cut it off as she spotted her new man - Harvey - walking over a suggestive smirk all over his face. He ignored sophie and crashed his lips onto Aleisha's, clambering on the sofa on top of her. Sophie and Zac used to do that, when they loved each other. Jealous, upset and aware she was unwanted Sophie bidded them farewell promising to talk to Aleisha more tomorrow.
