"A ride?" I repeated, making sure I heard him right.
Alex nodded once. "Yes ma'am. I would love to walk, but I live a while away from here." His tone was sarcastic.
Joshua sighed and looked at me. "Your call, but I'm staying here for a bit, You have to drive him yourself" He said.
I looked at Alex. "I'll take you to your house, but you have to sit in the back." I told him.
Alex smirked. "I'm fine with that, it's not the first time I've been in the back of a police car."
I looked back at Joshua. He already knew what I was going to ask. "I'll ride with Diaz back to the station once I'm finished. Don't take your eyes off of him and watch what he does." He said. I nodded and watched him walk off.
Alex walked closer to me. I had to look up to make eye contact with him. "Where do you live?" I asked.
"I actually don't know the address." Alex snickered.
I roll my eyes. "Do you know the directions at least?"
"I do." Alex said. I guided him to the back seat of the SUV and opened the door for him. Watching him get into the car was unusual. He seemed like he didn't belong there.
"The child safety lock is on." I tell him before closing the door so he couldn't speak. I take my time walking to the drivers side, I wanted to go home now and take a nice shower, but I was in no rush. Alex didn't seem like he was in a rush either.
I got into the drivers seat and looked for my phone. It was still in the same spot from where I left it. I grabbed it and checked my notifications, I had several missed calls from my mom and Michael. I looked at my moms text messages that she left me.
"Are you okay?"
"Answer please"
"We heard two officers were shot, they didn't say who"
"Please call me when you can"I didn't want to talk to her while I had Alex in the car. I texted back. "I am completely fine mom. I'll talk to you when I get home, I'm still at work"
I put my phone into my pocket and started driving away from the scene. It was quiet in the car, it made me uncomfortable. I could feel Alex's eyes on me as I drove. I looked at my mirror to see what his expression was. He was sitting comfortably in the back seat.
He leaned his head back on the seat but didn't take his eyes off me. It made me more nervous than I already was. I cleared my throat.
"Which way?" I asked when we stopped at a traffic light. Alex lifted his head up, looking around. "Keep going straight" He said, then returned to his position, looking at me again.
I bit my inner cheek then sighed. This was way too uncomfortable for me, I could hardly focus on driving. I decided to break the silence.
"I heard that you are the son of Pablo Gonzales." I began. "From what I heard, he sells narcotics?" I glance at him from time to time through my mirror.
He lifted his head up again, looking out the window this time. "That's a rumor." Alex said smiling. "People hate seeing a Hispanic millionaire, all he sells is beer."
Of course he wasn't going to admit that his dad distributes narcotics. I felt stupid for asking.
The awkward silence returned for a minute. I couldn't come up with another question. I slowed down at another traffic light.
"Keep going straight, I'll tell you when to turn." Alex said. I kept driving forward.
"Sorry about your car." I said, the silence becoming too overwhelming. "I could talk to someone and see if they could get your belongings."
