"Okay mom, I promise I'll try to visit this Saturday." I said as I turned off the stove and moved the hot eggs onto a plate.

"Thank you sweetie, Michael and I miss you so much." My mother tells me.

After moving from Miami to Orlando last year I barely visited my mother and step father. The drive was rather far, in total, it's 8 hours of driving from Orlando to Miami and back. My mother kept forgetting that.

"Who else is going to be there?" I asked as I ate an apple slice.

"Hmm, let me see" I heard her move some papers around through the call. I looked at my watch, I had about five minutes before I had to be out the door. My mother then started going through the list of names.

"Your brothers are invited but they were being real difficult." My mother started. "We had to pay for Isaacs plane ticket from Boston and Elijah's from California! If we hadn't they said they wouldn't be able to make it."

She let out an annoying sigh, "Pendejos."

I laugh before I took a sip of my coffee. "Of course they are." I placed my coffee back down on the counter and leaned against the sink. Ignoring all the dishes I had to wash when I come back from work today.

"At least you're a good child, Jackie. You still live in the state." My mother cheered.

"Mom, Isaac only went to Boston for college, I talked to him last week. He plans to live in Miami once he finishes" I reminded her, smiling. "Besides them, who else is going?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me. There was always someone new every year.

My mother pretty much said the whole family and some of her closet friends she knew for years. The only sad thing was that my grandpa was still in the hospital and couldn't come to the family reunion.

I finished my breakfast and placed the empty plate in the sink along with my empty coffee cup. "Alright mom I have to get to work now" I say as I grab my bag and rummage through it looking for my car keys.

"Hang on! I almost forgot" I heard her drop her notebook down on a table. "I met this really nice lady at the mall three months ago, she was shopping with her daughter. I also invited them to the get together. They're really nice people I'm sure you'll love them."

"I'm sure I will too, mom." I finally found my car keys. I threw my bag over my shoulder and walked out the door. "What are their names?" I ask as I locked my apartment door behind me.

She paused for a few seconds. "I didn't catch their last names but her name was Carla and her daughter was named Isabella." She said. I walked down the stairs, to the parking lot.

"I miss you so much mom, I'll be there early to help you cook. Tell Michael I said Hi" I say as I unlocked the door to my car. A Toyota Camry in black.

"Oh, Jackie I miss you too, Be safe at work." My mother said.

"I will mom, I love you." I say before I clicked end call. I put the key into the ignition and turned it, bringing the car to life. I closed the door and turned on the radio.

I rolled down the window, enjoying the fresh morning air for a minute, before putting the car in drive and pulling out of the parking lot.

I'm a police officer, but I haven't been one for long. I've been working at this police station for almost a year now and I've been doing pretty good so far. Not so bad for a rookie like me. I'm thrilled that I'm doing good in this job.

I turn on the AC before putting my window up. It was quiet in the car now so I could hear the radio a little more. I checked the time, I was going to make it on time if traffic wasn't bad this morning.
