Mary had a lot of influences on her throughout her reign, even when she was not queen. "The scots were determined to avoid the proposed English marriage. In July 1548, They sent the five year old Mary to France, her mothers homeland." Elizabeth queen of England was Mary's cousin. Even though Elizabeth became queen, England wanted Mary because she had a stronger hold on the throne.

Soon after they got married, King Francis had been in a accident and Mary took care of him until he had passed soon after. "Mary Stuart emerged from her mourning a changed woman." Within a few months she had became queen of France, lost her beloved mother, and been widowed.
Mary did not stay in France long after Francis died. " From her return to Scotland in 1561, Following the death of her husband, Mary's actions repeatedly rised concerns among her contemporaries about the ability of a woman to rule." When queens get married, they are expected to have an heir. When Francis died Mary had yet had a heir. Now she is expected to marry right away.
When she made it back to Scotland she had married Darnley. He was unique and was just after power. " Darnley never seemed to care for Mary and sought for more power than she was wiling to give him" Through most of there marriage they were not together. Not long after they got married, Mary got pregnant. "Mary certainly believed that Darnley was angry because she had denied him the crown and that he wanted to kill her and the baby.
