Chapter song: Cliff Notes by Emarosa~
Chapter Five
Adrian
I didn’t know why, and I couldn’t even come up with a reasonable explanation for the things that I just experienced. The man on the beach was some kind of otherworldly beautiful, and I couldn’t find any other words to describe him. His hair was the same blue as the waters behind him and had waves to his shoulders that mimicked the ripples of the ocean. His eyes were the most beautiful emerald green color that even the precious gems would weep in comparison. He has washboard abs and lips that were to die for. Everything about him was sharp and defined. He could have been shaped by angels, and I wouldn’t have doubted it for a moment.
“Hello. Earth to Adrian!”
I blinked and stared at my scowling friend. Her brow was nearly dripping sweat, telling me how hard she was searching for me in this terribly humid weather.
“What’s got your head in the clouds, nerd?”
I bit my lip to suppress my smile. I felt like that beautiful man was my secret alone. So for the first time in a long time, I uttered a lie.
“The beach was so much more peaceful than I could have ever thought.”
I suppose it wasn’t a total lie though. It was very relaxing. Just having Neros around was in itself a weight off my shoulders. He just sat there and listened to whatever I said. I normally didn’t talk so much, but the way he was looking at me just told me that he was truly listening to every word I said.
And that’s the first time someone ever did that for me.
“You should have let me see it then, you butt.”
I shrugged as Melissa led us back to the car. I wasn’t old enough to drive a rental car yet, so Melissa was the one behind the wheel. With that said, she insisted that we play her music from my phone instead of spending time listening to the radio. It was quiet because of my sensitive ears, but still loud enough to please her, somewhat reluctantly though.
“How the hell did you get so lost anyways?” she asked as she pulled out of the small parking area for the hiking trail that people were meant to take.
“I have a bad sense of direction. You should know this.” I gave her a droll look. “That’s why I always have my cell phone on me.”
She had the decency to smile at bit sheepishly at that.
“I thought it would be more fun messing with you. I always thought it was more of an ‘I’m super secretive and hate people looking through my phone’ kind of thing.”
I shook my head. “No. I don’t care much about that. I don’t even have a passcode for my phone.”
“Never noticed.”
I smiled at her and skipped through some of the heavier songs that I didn’t feel like listening to. She made a whimpering noise in the back of her throat, telling me that I was playing past some of her favorite songs. I hid my smile, but kept searching for a good song to listen to on our way back to the resort we were staying at.
I finally settled on some Emarosa songs, much to Melissa’s pleasure. I didn’t mind the smug look on her face though as I played through the encounter with Neros in my mind again.
