You chose to <Run Away>.

You know you should probably go to her, pull her out of the way, but seeing all those villagers. . .

Something in your curls up and dies. You turn and run, away from the burning compound, away from the scene that would haunt your nightmares.

Away from the angry question that would burn in your mind for nights on end.

wHY DIdN'T you do SOMETHIng?

Behind you, the angry cries of the villagers turn to cheers.

---

You wake up gasping, trembling, tears running down your face. Your hands shake as you press them to your head, trying to struggle out of the chair you had fallen asleep in.

"Oba-chan?" Your dear granddaughter pokes her head around the corner. "Are you okay?"

You take a moment to calm yourself, wiping your face and inhaling slowly. "Yes Suki-chan, I'm fine."

Suki fiddles with her shirt, walking over to stand nervously beside you. "Do you wanna. . . talk about it?" She offers awkwardly.

You think the idea over for a moment before offering a weak smile. "I would like that very much, actually." You pat the chair beside you. "Sit."

You wait until she rearranges herself, and once you're sure you have her full attention, you begin.

"In your history class, you learned about the Yondaime Mizukage's. . . prejudice against clans with Kekkei Genkai, yes?"

Your granddaughter nods.

"Well, see. . . I knew one of the people who died in the purge. Her name was Sukachi Ai, and she is the greatest regret of my life. . ."

". . . I'm so. . . sorry. . . "

"Huh?"

"I-I'M SORRY! I left you to die and I couldn't help you because I was so scared--"

"Mizu, you made the right decision--

"I didn't! You died! You're dead!"

"And you would have died too, if you helped me!"

". . ."

". . ."

". . . Uww. . . uwaaah. . ."

"Aw, kiddo. C'mere. We have, like, eighty years of hugs to catch up on. And besides, none of it was your fault."

". . ."

"So you shouldn't blame yourself, okay?"
