Marinette was excited for school today. All the late nights, finally paid off and she had made sure to set at least ten alarms so she would be up early enough to meet Alya on the steps. She couldn't wait to see her friend's reaction. Marinette threw on some new clothes just for today and made sure to complete the look with a different hairstyle.
"What do you think Tikki?"asked the budding designer.
"It looks amazing, Marinette, and I have a new place to ride in!" giggled Tikki.
Marinette smiled, but it quickly faded. "Are you sure it's okay for me to wear this?" questioned her charge.
"Absolutely!" replied the Ladybug kwami, " You're hiding in plain sight and changing your hairstyle while wearing this was a really good idea."
"Thanks, Tikki. Well, we better get goin so I'm not late." answered Marinette, opening her small bag for her kwami to make herself right at home in.
"Where is that girl?" mumbled Alya, checking the clock on her phone.
"Chill out, you know she's always running late." responded Nino.
"I know, but she said she had a surprise and promised she'd be here early." complained the red head.
"The blueberry promised she'd be early?" asked Nino.
"Blueberry?" asked Adrien, "Who's a blueberry?"
Alya rolled her eyes. "The girl who is always late to class, told me she'd be here early with---" she started , but her sudden scream of joy caught the boys off-guard. Before they could ask, she took off down the stairs.
"Ladybug?" questioned Nino, only to hear his girlfriend ask, "Girl, where did you get this? Oh, is this what you've been working on?"
"Never mind, it's just Mari." he said, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, it's still our everyday ladybug." replied Adrien.
Nino put his hands up in defeat. "I swear, Alya would leave me to die, just for an interview with Ladybug." whined the DJ.
"You know she wouldn't do that." the model said, throwing his arm over his best friend, "She'd do it for an autograph."
"Hey!" he said, shrugging out of his best bud's arm, while Adrien chuckled. They noticed a crowd form around the girls and began to worry.
"Adrikins!" cried out Chloe, as she latched onto her childhood friend. "Uh, don't waste your time on her. I mean, who does that baker's daughter think she is? Moi? I mean look at her trying to gain attention! She'd do anything to be in the spotlight." commented Chloe, trying to get her crush to see reason.
Adrien slips out of his friend's grasp and replies, "Chloe, that isn't nice and Marinette isn't like that at all."
The Mayor's daughter rolls her eyes. "How childish can she get? She dresses like she should be in primary school!" she shouts.
"Marinette isn't childish!" the model defends, "She's--" Nino turns his head quickly as the girls finally move towards them and he only has one word for her "Adorable."
Chloe gasps in shock and Nino snickers at her pain. "As if anyone would be into that sorta thing!" she says, turning her nose up at the idea.
"I don't know." goads the DJ, " It looks like my boi is."
The mayor's daughter quickly turns around to see Adrien rushing over to her rival. "Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!" Chloe exclaims, stomping away.
She glances back, as the group comes together. Chloe watches as a light blush forms on Adrien's cheeks, as he talks to the little bug, and a smile she hasn't seen since before his mother's disappearance forms across his face.
She looks down at the clothing that she begged her father to purchase. She couldn't be like everyone else! She couldn't be childish! She had to proudly show off that her parents were better then everyone else's and yet, now she could only frown.
She looked through every magazine her mother had been in and made sure she knew how to put together a mature look that was bound to get Adrien to look at her. Now, she could see, her mother's advice wouldn't work.
'A lady must always hold herself above the rest. A lady must be mature and graceful. A lady couldn't be average or charm people with the appearance of a child.'
Chloe couldn't be cute or girly if she tried. With her attempt at growing up to show her mother she could be a lady, she had lost her youthful glow and childish charms.
Marinette always had those charms and yet, she could make Adrien smile like she never could.
Silently, she headed to her first class. She couldn't allow anyone to see her tears. That would comes later that night when Jean-Luke brought her chocolate, champagne, and Mr. Cuddly.
'A lady never cries and never lets others see when she crumbles.'
