The van makes a turn off of main street. Basil leans forward, squinting. Up ahead, is a figure making lazy zig-zags on his skate board. His wild, dark curls and signature green baja hoodie (that brings out his eyes) are unmistakable.
"Hey pull over that's Freddie up there," He said sitting up. Louise nods and lays on the horn. Freddie's head whips around. The momentary terror on his face quickly breaks into a wide smile. He makes a stop and steps off of his board. He picks it up, jogging over to them mouthing something about the van.
"Oh man! my dad told me about this," he said while examining the interior. He looks again to Louise.
"Can I ride with you guys?" he says with an exited expression rivaling a child's. With a nod from Louise, he makes his way around to the back, opening the doors and tossing his board in ahead of himself.
"Ey, careful! Watch the interior", Louise cautions him.
"My bad" Freddie says, climbing in. He pokes his head in between Basil and Louise's. She begins driving again. They peal onto another street, the van filled with laughs and apologies from Louise, scared cries from Basil and a thump from Freddie being slammed into the van's wall.
"Holy shit be careful!" Basil shouts, one hand wound into his tight black curls and the other gripping the handle near his head for dear life.
"Yeah sorry I'm not used to driving this big 'ol boy yet" she says with an ashamed giggle. Freddie is just righting himself when Louise pulls into her driveway, causing him to smack a hand onto the back of Basil's seat for support.
