reader's quirk: shadow manipulation
description: can control hers and others shadows, like solidifying them and using them to travel
drawbacks: isn't as strong during the day, can cause user to faint if used excessively

you've only been living in musutafu for a week, but god, do you love it. it's a refreshing change of pace from the suburbs you'd lived in as a child with your whole family. and by "whole", i mean whole. it seemed like everyone in the (last name) family lived in the same 5 mile radius. your parents live across from your aunt and uncle whose oldest children live down the street. your youngest cousins and siblings love to stay at your grandparents' house right next door to your parents' and you lived with your older brothers all the way across town. that's the farthest they would ever let you live without a good enough reason. hero work was rare out there, but, with your mother having access to your bank account, there's no way she was letting you go to the city with more than the clothes on your back.

your first taste of the city was when you went to attend u.a. high school's hero course. you were just a kid, but you adored the city: the freedom of the dorms, the liveliness in the streets, the bustle of the foot traffic every day. it was euphoric. something was always happening and as a hero, even in training, you were always involved in it.

your second taste would be now, of your position as a teacher at u.a. high school. talk about full circle, huh? a letter from principal nezu asked for you to come back to the school as one of the combat teachers for the hero course. a chance to live in the city, doing what you love most? you couldn't turn it down. so you packed up and moved to an apartment in musutafu.

nezu wanted you to rest up before coming to teach, so you had nothing to do all day. currently, you were laying upside down on your couch, staring out of the balcony door, examining the clouds way too closely.

oooh, that cloud looks like a bunny! cuteee... and that one, it looks like...a puppy sitting on a centaur? okay, weird. that one looks like—

Meow!

HOLY CRAP!

a cat leaped onto your chest through the open balcony door, making you fall off the couch and on your head. you made sure not to hurt the small pet and sat up, rubbing your head.

"wow, that's gonna bruise," you winced.

the cat mewled again, pawing at your stomach and stumbling all over your legs.

"where'd you come from, little guy?" you inspected it for any sign of identification. "no collar... guess you're a stray, huh? that's okay. let's get you something to eat."

you placed him on the ground and stood, walking to your kitchen. you could feel him following you, pouncing at your feet and tumbling over them.

you chuckled and pulled some milk from the fridge, pouring it into a shallow bowl. as soon as you set it on the ground, the kitten lunged at it. he would've fallen headfirst into the liquid if you didn't scoop him up quickly.

that was basically the rest of your day: nervously chasing the rambunctious cat around the apartment to save him from injury.

he saw a bird outside your balcony window and wound up to pounce at it. but what he didn't know was that the door was closed. before he could smash his head into the glass, you grabbed him in your arms.

"oh, god. you're going to give me ulcers. this is too much." the cat innocently mewled in response, making you sigh. "you're lucky you're cute..."

for the rest of your week before starting to teach, the kitten was your company. he made sure you didn't go insane from loneliness and boredom and you made sure he didn't starve or freeze on the streets. sounds like a pretty good arrangement, if you ask me.
