Johnny stood in the lunch room at their production studio, watching the little tv in the corner. It was some entertainment show and they were talking about Sky's injury from the night before and how her tour was canceled. Jeff, Spike, Steve-O and Pontius were there, talking in the background. Johnny's brow was furrowed and a concerned look painted his face.
"When's your flight?" Jeff asked, pulling Johnny's attention back to the room.
"Uh," he pulled his phone out to check the time, "I have to leave in like 30 minutes. Her layover is in Philadelphia, so. I'm going to meet her there."
"This is serious, then..." Spike said, hands in his pockets, leaning in the doorway. Johnny just looked at him. "I mean, for you to drop everything to go be with her when she just tore her knee."
Johnny opened his mouth to say something, but had no idea what to say. His feelings for her were becoming serious, but they weren't dating. They had only spent a few hours of actual time together – physical time. Part of him wanted to tell Spike to mind his own business, which was weird because he had never reacted that way towards him.
"I'll be back in time for that big meeting with the lawyers. And MTV, don't worry," was all he could think to say. "It's not a big deal."
Pontius stood next to Johnny after Spike and Jeff walked away. "You think I'm being stupid?"
"Huh?" Pontius asked.
"By meeting her in Philly? Is that a dumb move?" He knew Pontius was the most sensitive of all his friends and he trusted his opinion on this sort of stuff.
Pontius just looked at him, "nah."
Johnny sighed and then squeezed his friend's shoulder. "I better go."
At the airport, paparazzi gathered around him. "Where are you going Johnny?" "Have you heard about Sky's injury?" He wore a T-shirt, a plaid shirt over that and his trademark pants, sneakers and sunglasses. He only carried a beat up looking backpack on his shoulder.
"Hey guys, I'm going to go see her right now."
A flurry of questions came all at once. Johnny laughed at A photographer almost falling over something. "I'll talk to you guys when I get back."Sky was lying down in one of the reclining/sleep seats on the private plane. It was around midnight and they were just waiting for Johnny to board. She tapped one foot anxiously on the wall as she listened for him. And sure enough, she could hear when he arrived because, A, his voice was so loud! And B, a flurry of conversation started all of a sudden. She heard his laugh and felt goosebumps come to her arms. She took a second to bathe in the feeling of relief that took over and looked up to see his beautiful face. But his face was marred with concern. He took his sunglasses off, sat down and took her into his arms. He inhaled her scent, lavender and vanilla, and kissed her on the head. She snuggled into him. "Hi PJ," her voice muffled by his shirt.
She curled up and onto his lap like a kitten, he even thought he heard purring. "Aw, hey, Sky, baby girl, everything is gonna be okay," he said into her hair. She held on to him so tightly.
"You both need to put your seatbelts on for right now," the flight attendant said to them as she passed by. Sky sat up and wiped at her eyes. Was she crying, Johnny thought. He helped her put her seatbelt on, put his own on, and grabbed her right hand into both of his before looking down at her.
"Hey," he said, grinning at her.
"Hi," she said, not trying to hide her delight at him being there.
"How's the knee?" He nodded in the direction of her leg propped up.
"It hurts."
"I'll bet it does."
"Do you know any secrets to dealing with a lot of pain? I mean, you're an expert at it."
He chuckled, "Right." Then he leaned down to her, "I've found that lots of kisses help." She tipped her chin up and looked into his eyes before he quickly pressed his lips to hers, and kept them there.
"Mmmmm, it's not working just yet," Sky whispered into his mouth. He kissed her again, a little more passionately, his tongue slipping past her lips after a few beats.
"How's that?" His voice was gaspy and low.
"I think it's starting to work-" Before she could finish the sentence his mouth was on her again and his right hand was now tangled in her hair. The rest of the crew sat in front of them in their seats and they were faced towards the tail, so they knew nobody could see what they were doing, unless they really wanted to.
Sky cut the kiss off and couldn't hold it back anymore, "How was your date with Jessica?" She hated how needy and clingy and childish she sounded by asking, but it was getting the best of her. It was the whole reason she was hurt, so every time she felt pain it was all she thought of.
"My what?" Johnny's mind was clearly still on making out, his eyes half shut and his lips still slightly puckered.
"Date with Jessica. Simpson."
"Ohhhhhh," shit shit shit shit shit, she's pissed, he thought. "That wasn't a date; I just saw her at the premier and some people wanted a picture of us together. Didn't you see my instagram post?"
"I might have seen it," Sky hated sounding so petulant.
"I wrote right on it that I ran into my "buddy." His face was so innocent and honest and Sky couldn't doubt for a second that that's all it was. She sighed.
"Good." She leaned her head on him. "I was afraid I was going to have to cut a bitch."
Johnny laughed."I'm half kidding," she said, lightly running her fingers over his hand as she held it.
"I only date one person at a time," he said.
Her eyes widened, "OH, are we dating now??"
His tongue pushed one cheek out as he looked down and slightly laughed. "I just mean, uh... well, uh...". His eyes met hers. "I like you a lot."
Her only response was to kiss him. He liked her. A lot. She had actually daydreamed about this happening, but she never in a million years thought it would happen. She focused on the moment and how soft his lips were and the sound of his breathing and the way his grip tightened on her hand and then how his mouth tasted and how his tongue felt like velvet. Her heart started pounding and butterflies started fluttering and she shivered.
"Are you cold?" He said pulling back.
"Huh?"
"You shivered; are you cold?" Before waiting for an answer, he took his hoodie from his carry on and draped it over her. "How are you doing with the pain?"
"Oh, I mean, it hurts," she admitted.
"Did the doctor give you anything? Drugs?"
"Yeah, some Percocet."
"Do you need any?"
"What time is it?"
"9."
"In about an hour or so."
He relaxed back in his seat, "Okay, I'll make sure you get some in an hour. Come here." He opened his arm for her to nestle into his side and he kissed the top of her head. Had he ever felt so protective of anyone, he thought. Had he LIKED anyone this much before? This was probably the biggest crush he ever had – and she always seemed so unattainable. And yet, here she was, curled up into his side. How many guys have wanted this? And she was here with him. He bit his lip and stifled a smile. He felt so much satisfaction and pride that she was there with him. It was truly a dream come true.
