"Hello?" Her voice resonated in the phone."Hey, Jess, it's Johnny, what's going on?" He sounded worn down but at the same time concerned. This was going to complicate things and he wasn't happy about that.
Her voice cracked, "Nick left me."
"I'm so sorry, Jess." Fuck fuck fuck. Johnny sighed to himself. Why did this have to happen NOW?
Her voice rose to hopeful, "Would you come over? After your meeting?"
"Uhmmm." He looked at his watch. "Okay, I'll call you later."
"Okay, thanks Johnny."
"No problem." He hung up the phone and tossed it into the passenger's seat, before letting out a big sigh. Time to get my head in the game, he thought, I can deal with this later. The meeting was shortly and it dictated his future.
Johnny walked into Jeff's office, grinning from ear to ear. An especially dirty thought of his night with Sky came back to him in the elevator and he had to adjust himself. Jeff looked up from his computer without moving his head, "Hey Knox."
"Hey Jeffy boy!"
"You don't seem nervous." Jeff looked up with his eyes. "Does this matter to you at all?"
Johnny froze as he was about to sit down on the couch on the other side of the room. "Of course it does, but what's going to happen is going to happen."
Jeff scowled and then rolled his eyes.
Spike walked in wearing a button up and khakis. "You guys ready?"
Without much forethought, Johnny quit the show. The lawyers came with more restrictions that needed to be put in place.
"That defeats the point of the show!" Johnny said before lightly shrugging. "I'm done." He waved his hand. "The show is going to be fucking lame with all these rules. I quit." He stood up and slammed his chair down before leaving the board room. He ran a hand through his hair as he walked to his office. He closed the door and collapsed on the couch, defeated. Now what?
In about 20 minutes, Jeff knocked on the door and came in without waiting for an answer. Johnny was sitting on the couch with he's elbows on his knees staring at the floor. He looked up to see Jeff. "Hey, man, I'm really sorry about what happened back there..."
"What the fuck is with you, man?" Jeff asked, arms open in exasperation. "Do you have any idea how bad you fucked us???"
Johnny sighed, "I know...."
"Look, get out of my office, I can't look at you right now." Jeff said, pointing to the door.
Johnny paused and looked around the room, "Jeff, this is my office...."
Jeff turned on his heels and left the room. Johnny leaned back on the couch with a sigh and pulled his phone out to call Sky. How was he going to tell her he quit his job?
"Helloooo..?"
"Hey beautiful," Johnny smiled weakly over the phone.
"Hey! How was your meeting??"
"Uhm, well, not very good." A halfhearted awkward laugh followed.
"What happened????"
Just as Johnny was about to answer, he heard a males voice in the background. "Where are you?"
"Oh, I'm at the studio.
