Ava's P.O.V
I'm awoken by frantic whispers and my body being shaken. Brodie's crazy eyes stare into mine for a second and I frown. What time is it? Why is Brodie shaking?
I mumble something and sit up, leaning on my elbow. Looking to the left I see George, hands running through his hair. I watch him carefully as he paces around my room, and then, when his gaze turns to me, I turn back to Brodie.
"Matty's gone..." Brodie's words are something I wasn't expecting, and as if her words were his cue, George storms out. I watch, and stare in confusion. I feel drunk, out of it, dizzy.
"Wait, what do you mean... gone?" I yawn as I say it, and I don't mean to seem so disinterested, but I knew from the beginning all these strangers would bring into our lives was drama. And suddenly I fall back into the state of bliss I was in last night when George was holding me and I feel a rush of embarassment and sadness and longing all at the same time and convince myself they're not so bad.
"I mean Matty's not here anymore and we don't know where he is. And a gun is missing."
If I wasn't awake already, I am now. I fist the bedsheets and clench my jaw. That's not his right. He's put us in danger.
I sigh getting out of bed and picking up a large t-shirt to wear. My hair's a mess, I know it before I even look in the mirror. But it doesn't matter, right? It's not like I'm trying to impress anyone...
Changing quickly into the tshirt and leggings, i tie my hair up and race out of the bedroom, Brodie following close behind. He's at the bottom of the stairs now, and I can feel George's eyes burning a hole into me. I push past him and head to the kitchen. The rack of knives are full of different options, my father was a culinary enthusiast, and so I choose the two sharpest and largest knives for me and George. Brodie will have the other gun, it works out well.
Hurrying past him again, I shove the knife in his hand. I don't wait around to see what he has to say.
Brodie's standing at the front door, ear pressed against it. I decide to save sometime and peak outside. There aren't many around, enough, but nothing we can't handle. I hope.
